ElVikingoTropical Posted June 10, 2019 Author Posted June 10, 2019 I’ve been busy this afternoon ordering parts and cleaning the fuel tank. The tank has some rust inside so I will handle it away for a ceramic interior treatment 2 Quote

ElVikingoTropical Posted June 11, 2019 Author Posted June 11, 2019 I begun sodaplasting the engine this afternoon until the air compressor broke I suppose I can get a spare part for the compressor to finish tomorrow 1 Quote
LightsOut Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Cool project, definitely going in the deep end restoration wise Good progress so far! From those who have tried it, is soda blasting a complete engine (without later disassembling to clean) considered safe or risky? (not sure if ElVikingo is intending to disassemble, just curious) Quote

Some parts to be powder coated other powder coated etc... Cheers Jan Quote
ElVikingoTropical Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 The engine looks much better inside then what is was outside. 2 Quote
ElVikingoTropical Posted June 14, 2019 Author Posted June 14, 2019 I have found one damaged piston... What piston do you guys recommend quality/money/performance ?? Quote

As I have no experience with this engine I don’t know what piston to search for, I’m not building a race engine but as I have to replace and doesn’t know what brand to use. I have been restoring air cooled Porsche and Ducati’s for more than 25 years and this is new for me Quote
dupersunc Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 Suzuki stock a lot of oem stuff for these bikes. Failing that Wiseco do a 1mm oversize piston which ups the compression a bit too. Quote

Whilst I know of a racer that fitted 3 different sized pistons just to get through a race meeting the resultant vibration was unbelievable so I couldn't recommend overboring just one cylinder! An OEM std piston, new rings and a 'gentle' hone should work for you providing bore damage ain't too great. Quote
ElVikingoTropical Posted June 15, 2019 Author Posted June 15, 2019 I will change all four pistons as this is the only correct way. But with what pistons... Wiseco JE Wössner ( I have used this brand a lot in Porsche’s) Etc... Quote
1100fred Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 Suzuki seem to want £430 for 1 bare piston so it wouldn’t be one of there’s Quote

ElVikingoTropical Posted June 15, 2019 Author Posted June 15, 2019 I went on cleaning an soda-blasting this afternoon, I also discovered that I have to do valve seats as well 1 Quote
ElVikingoTropical Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 This afternoon I played a little with parts I have laying around from a ZXR6. The funny thing was that the front end just bolt on.... I don’t like the rear swing as I prefer a more classic GSX-R look. Which Suzuki swings fits without modifying the chassis? 1 Quote
Swiss Toni Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 There's many arms that can be made to fit, some with a bit of 'gentle persuasion!' However, if you want to stay with the classic Suzuki look, why not use the later G/H model arm? It was made 25mm longer than the F models, to keep the front end down, and generally improve things. I think the 1100 Slabbie arms might be an option also? 1 Quote
ElVikingoTropical Posted June 21, 2019 Author Posted June 21, 2019 “New” parts coming in for my bike.... i found this one at Andalucía for 50€... Not close to the coast and the engine turns... 2 Quote

I have also reserved the original fork legs and seals with the post... The problem is that everything takes at least two weeks delivery over her.... 2 Quote
