Unfortunately not much i'm afraid boss.
Clipped another half a coil from the regulator spring to try and drop it down a bit more - haven't had chance to try it again yet.
Have re cleaned the carbs and reset the float heights to 23mm to try and cure the flooding but haven't had chance to fire it up.
The other spring turned up and as Rob said it's completely the wrong size, nevermind eh?
Hopefully i'll get a few evenings on it this week - need to weld up a bracket for the rear light, then i think that's pretty much all the fabrication stuff done.
I've bought a proper remote fuel tank so i can run it up for longer without forgetting to stick fuel down the funnel! I'm going to try and get it revving a bit cleaner before i try the tank again.
One small step at a time
You not got a fuel retun pipe?

What happened did you make Donnington?

On tge back burner at the minute. Need Yoshijohnny to get his race licence.

Fueling under 4k is normally needles want raising or lowering a bit. Try a washer either way and see if it improves. Then try a whole clip. Pilots and mixture shouldnt make a lot of difference

I wouldnt want to be using a skimmed dot head on a bandit lump at all. Valves are almost too close before skimming. Better off just porting a bandit head

Ta Rob. It started sweet as a nut without the pump, as soon as i flicked it on it stalled.
Will lower the heights and drop the new spring in when it arrives
What spring did you get? One i got was completely wrong size

Sounds like fuel pressure is pushing the floats open. I always set mine to the maximum height to help em stay closed. Getting base pressure to 2psi I found is about the sweet spot, dint really want to be any less. I always start with fuel pump off and turn it on when running.

Bit of a write up on my weekend.
As you all saw my run up to Pendine was just a little bit difficult, the net result being I had to re-build an engine using my old bottom end and new top end in 4 evenings before heading to Pendine. After some long hours I did manage to get it all together and running, also managed a quick blat up and down the road to check it moved, I also managed to get the fairing to fit and painted.
Got to Pendine friday and settled in. Saturday weather was cracking, got on the beach, plan was to run 1km for half the day then go to 1 mile later.
1st run was to be a steady run to check all was well with the bike. Did the run came back, manged a steady 142 which was 8mph quicker than my previous km reccord. Bike was good and all seemed like it would be a good weekend.
And that was as good as it got. The weather it seems was too good, the sand dried out too quick and I went progressively slower. Tried alsorts of different things, more boost, less boost, higher/lower gears nothing worked it just varied the size of the rooster tails. We didnt get to run on the mile due to a prick in a buggy churning the track up after his run.
Sunday was much of the same, I was 1st to run on the mile, bit of a steady sighting run at 162mph 2mph short of last year, then was a re-run of saturday, even when extended to 1.5 mile i could only manage 162mph way short of my previous 178.
It seemed everyone was having the same issues, none of the faster records being troubled.
On a brighter note, the bike proved to be reliable again, just needs a bit of setup to get perfect, the weather was cracking and the weekend really good fun. And I did break one record. I look forward to trying again either later this year or next year.
Next up is getting some road and track miles in, and possibly some top speed runs at Elvington to see what a difference the fairing makes :-)

How did it perform at Pendine Rob?
Bit shit really, sunny weather dried sand out too quick, was too soft for the fast bikes. Nobody got close to last years big numbers. Managed to break my 1km record but that was it

Surprised you didn't just build a baffle inside the fairing to feed the coolers from the ram air inlet - should provide adequate cooling flow at 100mph+
The 2 hours I had to get it just to fit and paint didnt allow for that ;-)

That's a ZX9R front fairing is it?
Yep. Had it lying round and it fitted over the coolers

Have you got to the bottom of your motor issue??
Not had chance to take it completely to bits yet. I know the shells on 2+3 con rods exist only as glitter now. I suspect a crank shell has spun and gone tight, overheated the crank and the heat generated has killed rods too. Amazing it was still running really

I will be there again.
Bike is almost back together now. Will be staying on the Parkdean caravan site.
Cant wait.

Start stripping and rebuilding ... stop posting to the internet Gutted to hear it died at Donington - but great that you have a spare for Pendine!

Thanks for your time chatting with me on Sunday, especially after your motor died.
Good luck in getting it rebuilt and up and running for Pendine
At work at the mo, hence internet time haha.
Other motor is already in the frame, just needs rest of it bolting back on, be running by tomorrow eve.
Fugly, no probs mate, always happy to chat. At least I had other options to ride and still really enjoyed myself, old zxr proved its still a pretty quick old bus and I can still ride a bit

Donington didnt go quite as expected.
Did a session at low boost, all went really well, bike was really quick,
Made the bloke on a Desmosedici RR who attempted to race me down the straight look like he was on a moped :-)
Pulling in to the pits motor stopped and didnt want to start. Couple of minutes later was ok again. Went out next session, power was down and developed a knocking noise. Pulled in and as was heading back oil light was flickering.
Decided to leave it alone. Used my cafe racer and had a play on zxr rest of weekend.
Pulled motor out and partially to bits yesterday. Picked up a crank bearing, got really hot, over heated number 2+3 con rod bearings and they have turned to glitter and plasticine. Crank dead, busa rods dead, possibly cases dead.
Another busy week putting old faithful back in ready for Pendine this weekend.
Gutted it broke but also glad it did it now instead of after driving all the way to Pendine.
Fingers crossed I get it all done in time

That didn't take long to get to bits Rob, Any idea of cause ?
Not sure yet. Possibly blocked oil jets or just unlucky and spun a shell
