it gets weirder, every one that's up for sale used or new on both the SRAD & K1-3 do not have these shims.
Even the wheel i'm swapping over when i assembled it never had them?
I'm just thinking to say sod it & fit the spacer tube without em?
-
Excellent, thank you peeps, i'll get it reassembled now

you need some immagination but when the wheel is turning, the valve is "protected" by a spoke. So in the pic above we're looking at the left side of the wheel.
Well i never knew that! Although it obviously makes sense
Every days a school day

And that's the wide side on view. If i had to guess i'd say that side belongs on the right.
But that's only cos the spindle is wider on that side, even though it wouldn't make any difference once bearing is in?

I swear i'm having a blonde moment here, but which way does the rim go?
It's stripped after P/coat & i have the wide & narrow openings to the bearing seats.
What size goes to what side?
-
So that's a K1-3 pic, strangely i thought the SRAD wheel was the same but the spacer isn't P/No: 54731-33E10 & that was what i priced it on £53.66!
-
Can't find em myself, just shows spacer at £53?
-
Kinda makes sense, but i've never come across em in all the bearings i've changed before.
And as said, they don't show on parts fische?
So how do i replace the knackered one?
-
Just knocked the bearings (6205 RS) out of a GSXR Srad, early K series front wheel & got these 2 shims?
As you can see i mangled one cos i didn't know they were there & parts fische for 96/99 & K1-3 models don't show any?
Bearings were rubber sided on 1 side only.
Always thought std bearings from factory were metal shielded 1 side so may have been changed before, but what are the shims?
-
I run 520 on both my bigbored GS1000 & my Efe
-
Ah yes, clearly wherever i got it there were no spacers supplied?

Well aside from thou steels being slightly larger O/Dia but the same inner i doubt suzuki reinvented the wheel when it came to the bolt spacings on the hub as the pressure plate for both has the same part no PRESSURE DISC (21462-49201)
I assumed cos one has the stepped mounts, that the pressure discs might be different. So in that case, not sure what the LH one is for?

Is that GSX then
I'm led to believe GS & GSX are the same, but both in pic were meant to be GS?

Center photo, the right one is what I have in my GS
Strangely the RH one is what @Gsxrsammade me, the one on left i have no idea what/where it came from!

ask rupperton for a price on spacer
Gary May "the gen" has extended racks for £50 on faceache
i dont have a gs cover otherwise i would try a gsx rack in it "but i don't see it being different it was a very common item across the ranges at the time"
Already have, Roger, SPS, Grumpy & Sam baker haven't got any. Now trying Gary (Gen) & he'll get back to me

Ah right, i didn't know that, i assumed it was about the basket height against the cover. never occured to me it was the case in the way
-
I'd say just use a lockup, problem is getting the parts.
SPS reckon the GSX extended rack will work in a GS (I'm sceptical) & also he hasn't got any spacers but will get more made as soon as he gets another order.
Either way the full kit is £494, individually the spacer is £180 & rack is £126
-
As i see it you'd have to use 2 spacers. 1 for the difference in basket depth, then 2nd one for the lockup itself. Both can be had from SPS.
Or 1 big one that would have to be specifically made!
-
So i need some new needles for the VM's i've rebuilt.
Got a number & price & was gonna buy em, but looking at the pic the taper is a uniform decline to the end.
But the ones in the carbs now have a much more refined step point to them.
Can anyone say if they're std or possibly Dyna/Factory or summat?
I'll add pics when i open up the garage
-
Yep that's the downside!
So basically you're doing a clutch swap but not a lockup?
-
Surely if you're taking meat off the clutch basket, in effect you're turning it into a GS1000 basket & defeating the point?
That's why SPS has produced that (7mm?) spacer plate so you keep the extra plates in the GSX clutch, & also explains why the rack is longer on std & lockup versions

Anybody tell me a good fuel tap to use, GS1000 tank with 44mm hole spacing running to the VM33ss so has to be single outlet with no vac?
