I did this on my 1100et , 1100et swinging arm (ali) standard, bandit 12 rear wheel , et carrier, 170 tyre, offset sprocket and 530 chain / rear sprocket,, dropped calliper down to bottom ( b6 calliper) , bespoke dog bone made up to act as calliper stay which goes from calliper up to lower shock mount. no frame mods required . not sure if gs frame is same as et but sure someone here can confirm that.
pm if you wish
will post a pic shortly.
Also did the USD caliper & torque arm. I went down to 520 chain & also did it on the EFE too, plenty of strength in good make chains these days.

ah that was the question and answer all in one, just because you said thats the man to see, I asked what he build. Its clear for me now

Got a 180 in mine, & i had to use a Busa rim as the hub is narrower than the other options.
Also i spaced out the front sprocket as a cheaper option than an offset.
It has a JMC arm in so had to turn down the carrier a bit & use shortened sprocket bolts & 1/2 nuts too. But that may all be down to the JMC?

Will this work on a GS1000?
-
Yep frame is PC'd & engine painted. Think i will make up a secondary strap direct to battery. Can't do any harm (unless i stick it to the pos side)

Bike looks bang on , even better in the metal , be good to have a spare starter or a reconditioned one or possibly borrow one of someone local if it starts quicker job done ;-)
Nobody round here owns a GS1000 but will look in to getting a recon/new one too?

To clear this up, 3 different batteries over 3 years. Start issue is same come sun or snow. Starter/Earth have both been checked & cleaned. I will now look in to a 2nd Earth & the solenoid.
Oh & the tits belong to the GF ;-)

Nice bike,
Are they marzocchi shocks on the rear?
Not really sure, always thought they were & they have the basic internal structure as strada's but are square shape. Cannot find any info on em anywhere?

Def not the battery, have had 3 on it. MF & Yuasa & Motobatt. All with same result. If anything the Motobatt performs best ;-)

Starter clutch was rebuilt, Its bored out to 1100 too, but always struggled even before. As for screwdriver, it turns over & starts so not much point in doing that is there?
-
Nope, but considering this was a ground up build, i'd be very surprised if that was the case. Will look later ;-)

After a 3-4 very slow turn overs it fired into life with fresh fuel in. Not ran since last Sept while zorst was re-made. Well happy it just fired up.
Although the turn over struggle is an ongoing thing? Battery is a Motobatt, & only 6 months old on trickle over winter. The starter has been disassembled & cleaned & looks ok. The earth lead looks good too. Any other ideas peeps?
