they don't look to bad TBH !!!! a tad weak maybe, what are the carb settings right now ?
-
one thing to remember though, they might be welded but not fully, but better than no weld at all

I believe you can see the welds on the crank when the clutch cover is removed, but I'll let someone else confirm that statement.
the black 83 engine i put in my ET you could see the welds on one of the crank webs with the clutch cover off.

sorry guys but i do prefer them without a fairing

Many years back I had a 1983 GSX1100 ET or was it an EX? I have seen a number of posts saying there wasn't much difference between the two models, was it just a revised name for the later years or are there specific differences?
the 80 (et) and 81 (ex) where the same bike but im sure the last one they did in 82 had different clocks and a round headlight with the same bodywork. also in 82 they changed the look of the bodywork with the EZ.
in this history the 3rd model with the round headlight and clocks isn't shown !!!!!!!

Thanks Gixet1460 for having my back. That post wasn't an answer to a 7 year old question! A lot of GSXr riders were asking about that wire not just from this site, so I figured I would check it out and post my findings, every time I write something one of you guys have some kind of smart ass remark. Aren't we supposed to be helping each other out? Stick to what this should be about and use it properly. Keep your comments to yourself unless it's helpful!
somebody touched a nerve their !!!!! "everytime you write something theirs a smart ass remark" youve only got 2 posts
time to chill out its just a bit of banter.

I ended up swapping it back, It was playing on my mind too much so I got another gasket and swapped it over, luckily no m6 threads stripped along the way lol
piece of mind

anyone converted a 1400 to carbs ?

Probably easier to run a separate fuel pump instead of in tank like the 1400. Not a lot of room in the gsx 1100 without major mods. Also loose a bit of fuel capacity. Much easier to transfer bodywork to 1400 frame. But then it's a 1400 with 1100 bodywork on...again not that straight forward.
their is a few 1400 owners who fit an external fuel pump, theirs plenty of room under the seat for one.

really like the look of the 1400 ET, thats what Im thinking about with my 1400, it would be a bit easier to fit/modify ET bodywork to the GSX1400 frame, that way I get to keep the standard wheels and suspension, their will be a lot of work modifying an ET tank though.

what year is your GSX engine ? 83's where mostly welded at the factory.

if it was me I'd correct it just for piece of mind.

bandit is monoshock, ez is twin shock. you might get the swingarm in, but youve got to fit suspension to it.
he said he will make shock mounts for it but didn't say if he's going single or twin !!!!!!

I'm not too fussed about the big tyre thing tbh, my main concern is being able to get some sticky rubber on there and there's plenty of choice in the 160, 170 and 180 widths for 17" rims. So rather than try to squeeze the widest possible into it I'll probably compromise at 170/55 and save myself some work.
yeah i agree, but still better than the original skinny wheels

yeah i think a 180 is about the biggest you can go on our old bikes, any bigger then as dezza says lots of machining.

bare aluminium does corrode pretty fast, its a problem i have living on a small island surrounded by the Irish sea

A 180 is doable, but chain run is tight to frame. A couple of mm at best. Can notch the frame to suit with good results. I've machined sprocket carrier a couple of mms to suit and 3/8 offset front sprocket what have you to line things up accordingly. You Can do all of that and also run a 170 tyre to be on the safe side. 180 tyres don't always measure true 180 depending on manufacturer when fitted. I've had some chains kiss the rear tyre and others not. Hence why I dropped to a 170. Albeit, 170 tyres limit your manufacturer/tyre options.
yeah had a 180 on mine, and bang on with the width of different makes of tyre, they do differ.

Is a swingarm of a Bandit 12 not an option ? With some small parts it fits without modifying the frame
yes a bandit swinger will fit easy, you will need to get some tophat spacers made or just sleave it down from 20mm to 16mm.
