not in the exhaust in the inlet rubbers. the reason why i said is ive fitted some restriction washers to other bikes is, a 600 bandit rev's and rides just exactly the same BUT when it reaches around 80-85 mph it won't go any faster.

might be a long shot but ive fitted a learner restrictor kit to 600 bandits, they are just big washers shoved in the inlet rubbers with a smaller hole in the middle, im probably way off but worth a look, who knows whats been done in its history !!!!

have you got a gear linkage on your bike ? if so make sure thats free and smooth before you delve into the engine.

you do get a certain amount of popping in an exhaust on carb'd bikes on the over run, but its masked by the standard exhaust so its hard to here, but on a free flowing exhaust its more noticeable.

try and weeken the mixture screws off a quarter turn (in) and try it. and sounds like you have clutch drag !!!!!

always pays to double check cam timing

having an air filter on or off won't make much difference at idle with the bike stood still, the compression isn't the best but it should still run fine at that as they are all fairly equal. a balance might help if they are way out. but as Jonny said if you can, try another set of carbs.

I did that today as well. Looked alright. Checked valves probably a couple of times last year they're all within spec. Checked float level when they where apart last time so that's in spec. Also replaced all o rings on carbs.
what where the compression readings out of interest ?

I think the next step is to check the engine, do a compression test just to rule out a mechanical issue.

did you have the vacuum pipe plugged when you had the tank off ? and did you have some sort of fuel supply as its running ? got to keep the float bowls full at all times

rev's that hang is a symptom of an air leak or a lean mixture when it comes to carbs.

first off set the idle when the engine is at working temp. if the rev's are hanging and then dropping is sounds like its running lean (to much air), have you tried the mixture screws ?

if you mean the Mk2 bandit clocks you will need to rig up some sort of speed sensor off the front sprocket cover, and wire the rev counter to an ignition coil. if you use Mk1 clocks then you can use a speedo drive from the front wheel.

I think the GSX swinger is a tad longer but not sure ? but the pivot width is the same. the wheel goes in easy but the sprocket carrier needs machining down to get it lined up. not got the bandit engine in yet though.

my current GS project has a GSX1100 swinger in it, ive got a B6 wheel in it atm with a 160 tyre on it, if i push the wheel all the way forward the tyre rubs on the swinger but half way down the slots it clears. im happy to use the B6 wheel as it makes chain line up a lot easier, but i might fit a B12 and wheel i have at a later date ???
