Hi all,

I'm looking for an 1100L frame for a rebuild. I have been offer a frame registered in April 1991 - with the vendor thinks is probably an L but can't remember.

I have scoured the interweb can't can't get a date of when the first Ms came out, and I can't tell by looking at the pictures.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Jonny

The 1100L were built in 1990, the M in 1991

Yes - that I know.  My question is from what month did Ms start appearing? I doubt it was Jan 1st '91

That is the years they built them but the release dates were different around the globe. In England new model registrations used to be in March so you could infact have a 1990 L model registered in 1991 from stock left over in dealers and they would have been discounted to make way for the surge in new sales of the next model due to people wanting to be the first on the road with the new reg letter in march.

If it was from a bike  registered as you mention in April 91 it could quite easily be an L model but if it was built in 91 it would most definate be am M model frame

Thanks all.

i used to have an L registered in 91, back in the day but can't remember the month.

I think on the basis of your comments I pass on it as an M frame is no good to me.

89 - 92 frame numbers all start GV73A-B so it may be a call to Suzuki UK to find out at what frame number they changed from l to M or look in a Haynes manual they normally have that info

Does it still have the tank mount rubbers on the frame? I think on the 91 and 92 they are screwed on, whereas they are glued on with the 89 and 90 frames. The top shock mount is bolted on with the 89, so that is another thing you could look for. I think the subframe on the 91 and 92 models is different, but I'm not 100% sure and whether it's easy to pick in photos. Hopefully some else can confirm this.

And as Crashtester said, glued on tank rubbers on K/L, bolted on rubbers on M/N.

That's brilliant! I can now tell the difference from photos - many thanks!

It's defo an M-frame then!
