no class Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Heard somewhere that the Kat 1100 cranks/rods differ from the gs 1100 ..... can someone shed some light on this ? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 The Kat rods are marked '493' and generally regarded as stronger than regular GSX rods - don't know the difference but racers try to use the 493 rods where they can. 1 Quote
no class Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 I have a few stator and covers from gs1100 80' - 81' and upon inspection it appears the Kat has a smaller stator ??? Quote

Arttu Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Yes, the Kat has smaller stator diameter than other GS1100s. I'm not sure if the Kat has both small and big taper versions as well. At least small taper has been used but I don't know if it was changed to big taper on 83' model like on other GSs. Quote
no class Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 curious to see if the stock crank was partially welded from the factory as some of the articles I have found on the net dictate ...... Quote
Arttu Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 They started weld cranks on late 82'. So all black engines should have welded cranks and silver ones non-welded. Quote
arnout Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Here's an old pic to illustrate the beefier Katana rods. Front to back: 00A - EFE 493 - Katana 492 - ET/EX/ESD 1 Quote
