gixeriain Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Riding my stock bandit 12 is good. In a straight line, its reet, unless you go over white lines when overtaking or filtering. Feels like the frame is hinged. On left handers, it wants to drop in fast, I have to push left hand bar forward. On right handers, I have to push the right handle bar forward or itll just drop in. There was a 190/50 on the rear. Ive put a standard 180/55 on it. It feels better but still bloody weird. Any ideas ?????? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Worn or under / over inflated tyres can act weird over white lines - I deffo know i've only got a 1000 or so miles left in the tyre when it starts tracking / tram lining! You probably never noticed but 'counter steering' is how bikes work over about 20mph - the 190 tyre won't have helped! Quote
Oilyspanner Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Good advice from G1460 - check the condition of the front tyre, some tyres feel awful when worn, they wear in the half/ 2 thirds from middle (which wears slowly). This causes a 'falling' feeling when starting to lean, as you go from one profile to another. A slack front tyre just feels 'kin' terrible as it moves on the carcass , it tends to slow down steering input though - check it's got 36 psi in it - less than 30 psi makes the feel crappy. Quote
wraith Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Do the standard checks on the bike, the post is bordering. Quote
gixeriain Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 Cheers folks. its my weekend off, so, weather permitting, I will check it all again. Quote
banoffee Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Headbearings and wheel bearings, squared off and/or under inflated tyres. Most common things we see in the workshop from customers complaining of weird handling. Quote
gixeriain Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 New front tyre on today. Felt weird because ive probably got used to how it was. But after 8 miles it seems so much better. Quote
boilerdude Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 The bandit has a tendency to run wide a bit. It's not the sharpest thing. And once the front tire starts to get a flat strip in the middle. Thats probably the "drop in" tendency you mention. Kinda like it doesn't want to turn at first then it drops over a point. Somewhat suddenly and unnervingly... Quote
