Boogieman Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Hi, I have an 1127 in a slabby and was giving it a tidy up recently. Upon finishing and giving it a run, I noticed the exhausts leaked at the head slightly. It was leaking badly prior to this so I fitted new gaskets. I looked at the online parts catalogue and noticed I'm missing the exhaust plates (Item 5 in this figure) I ordered them and they look like a restrictor - because of this I'm not keen to fit them but may need to add something else to take up the space to get it to seal does anyone know why these are fitted? cheers Quote
Captain Chaos Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) if those plates are thin (1 or 1,5mm) you can leave them out. They look like restricors to me, but according to the part diagram from 1986 they are for all markets, usually only a few markets get a restricted version. Captain Chaos Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) had a closer look, for model year 1987 and 1988 the plates are only mounted in E2, E17 and E39 markets. Which is England, Sweden and Austria. Edited February 1, 2016 by captain chaos Quote
Rene EFE Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 If it keeps leaking at the head when seemingly, there's nothing wrong, just use dual gaskets. A bodge, but it works and you can't see it. Quote
Captain Chaos Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 is the sump pan from a 1127 engine? Might cause the exhaust to sit slightly lower / at an angle. Quote
Boogieman Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Thanks for the replies. Theyre only about 1mm thick so I also think they shouldn't make a difference. I had considered a second row of gaskets but genuine are $40 per set set and I thought I was doing the right thing buying the bits on the parts list. Its odd that they are stocked in Oz and they're on the Oz parts list if they are only for those 3 countries. I might remove it and see if it's crushing the gaskets and reassess then. thanks for the input Quote
Ben Slabby Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 What Rene said. Mine is fitted with two sets, had the same issue but it's down to someone ballsing the threads on the exhaust ports up. Works fine. Quote

Boogieman Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Excellent to know. I knew there was no way it would help it but knowing they are restrictors has sealed the deal. My threads etc are great so I'll give it a nip up and if still leaky I'll try a spacer behind the gasket or a second gasket. Cheers for the input guys. Quote
