WimBaas Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I am building a gsx 1100 ET and need some new shocks. Which are good and not too expensive like Ohlins, Wilbers etc? Are the Hagon, YSS ones good enough? I am willing to spend a few hundred euro's. Regards Wim. Quote
Blubber Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I had the basic Hagons.. Hagon Road on my gsx1400..... i will never, ever recommend them to anyone.. even if they came free I will not fit them again. They gave me very limited feedback and made the bike very unpredictable / wobbly in corners. Basically it felt like i was driving with leaky shocks. Apparently the Nitro version from Hagon is good. Havoc Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nitros are very good but still quite expensive. I paid £360ish for mine although they were built to spec. Now, I'm am no Sheenebut I do have my hooligan moments and these babies have done 7000+ miles this year and behaved themselves very well, no discernible difference between now and then, came with 2 sets of springs and are adjustable. £100 show price from Newark this time last year (think they retail @ £120). WimBaas Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 What kind of brand are the ones at the second picture? thanks! Quote
Havoc Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 http://tecbikeparts.com/Shock_Absorbers.html You'll have to navigate that yourself, but the old adage of 'they're cheap so they're crap', doesn't seem to apply in this case. Remember when that hairy chap talked about 'Jap crap' in the late 70s when you were stood at the bar with your pencilled in moustache, yeah that. Just me then Quote
WimBaas Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 Thanks those Tec shocks are very interesting! Quote
Gammaboy Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Yamaha XJR1300SP has fully adjustable Ohlins - Find a set, swap the eyelet bottom for a fork bottom and they're a great upgrade - they wind up about 340mm centre to centre though. I found mine on Yahoo.JP Auctions. Wound up about half the price of new ones. Quote
Havoc Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) The 'Ohlins' on XJRs are not Ohlins quality, made in Yam factory under licence. A new set of TECs, ever year for 8 years, equals Ohlins...but they last longer than a year.... Edited January 21, 2016 by Havoc Quote
Paulm Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I second the TEC shocks Wim,had them on my Turbo ET for about 3000 miles with no problems, they are good enough for my riding capabilities. 1 Quote

There's 2 variants of XJR Ohlins - theres the genuinely Yam OEM Kwality non adjustables, and there the fully adjustables - which I am very happy with. Of course, if you're happy with a set of Chinese non adjustables, go for it. 1 Quote
Havoc Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) OK. These are quite adjustable though, I change them when we go 2 up and it is noticeable. I accept that Ohlins are better quality, but not x8 better. The Nitros do feel x3 better, but I've not ridden on them yet Edited January 21, 2016 by Havoc Quote

bigyellowthing Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Wilbers are rated by Revs Racing but Ohlins 36P are better than XJR type. Pricey but 10 years on and still great handling and ride quality Quote
