1996 Bandit gearbox

Hi my Bandit has just started to have quite a definate clunk when pulling away ,the clunk repeats  in time with engine revolutions and dissapears at around 3000rpm..at first i thought it was issuse with chain and sprockets but chain is adusted fine and is fairly new along with the front and rear sproket.  The gearbox  runs fine all the way  through to top and down again until under 3000rpm. Do I have a serious  problem...is gearbox likely to go bang soon  ?

Could be a gear, could be the outpuf shaft bearing, could even be the rear sprocket carrier bearing

Dose the clunk increase with the revs untill 3000rpm or stay the same?

It increase with speed but smooths out at around 3000rpm.  I did notice it though mildy when in 5th and just  burbling along at around 2500,doen hill, no load on engine,gearbox etc.

True,

Or the pump cush ,

Or drive gear from the alternator

Can even be the clutch basket.

 

Clunks are very hard to discribe on a forum

3 things you can do.

1. Start striping the bike and see if you can find something.

2. Get some ear plugs 

3. Wait till something goes bang

4. Install a turbo. Then the wait for 3 and eventually 1 will be shorter. And less boring.
