Ronaldo Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Gsx1100et only running On 3 pots swopped leads, swopped carbs The carbs have been sonic cleaned. any ideas please. Quote
NorthernBloke Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Was it previously running on all 4, and when you say swapped carbs, you've used a completely different set? Is the plug wet on the none running pot & have you swapped the plugs over as well. Quote

Swopped the carbs around not new ones, plug looks dry, swopped plug leads around put 2 on 1 1 on 2 fired up but on the same 3. Quote

How did you swop carbs around? Alternate rack or break the rack up and swap bodies around? Surprised it ran at all swopping 1 and 2 leads around as it would make ignition 180 degrees out ! ! ! You can swop 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 - no other combinations are correct. Quote
NorthernBloke Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Does the plug sparks outside the engine, rested against the cylinder head? I would swap plugs and try it or fit new ones just in case. If you've swapped carbs and coils and leads then it something related to that cylinder that hasn't been moved. Valve clearances, compression on that pot? Quote
Ronaldo Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 That’s the one thing I haven’t done, a compression test. Quote

Sorry that’s not what I meant. Yes I’ve swopped the carbs around. And swopped the bodies around. tried everything I can think of, I’ll have to do a compression test next. 12 minutes ago, Gixer1460 said: How did you swop carbs around? Ronaldo Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 Just hope it’s not a rebuild, think that’s beyond me. Quote
NorthernBloke Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 If you get it running on 3, does it run on all 4 once its warmed up and off choke, or at higher revs? also if you put your hand over the carb inlet that's not running does it kick in? Quote
Hacri Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Have you checked valve clearence on the cylinder?. Had a ignitor box go bad, would only run on 3 cylinders, after a while none cylinders. Quote
bluedog59 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 It's unlikely to be a mechanical fault if it was running on 4 beforehand. If you haven't touched anything between it running on 4 and now 3 we'll assume the compression and valve are good enough to fire. Have you checked the relevant floatbowl for fuel ? The float height ? The pilot jet and choke circuit ? The airscrew setting ? Quote
inazumarob Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Locking screw come loose on valve adjuster? This could cause valve clearance to alter and cause missfire. Quote
AndyLoader Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I had this on cylinder 2 . After changing plugs and checking leads I took the carbs off and cleaned out that particular carb .Apart from the carbs needing balancing it runs ok now. Quote
