  2. My 2nd rim (the front rim) finally arrived. I just have to pop out the bearings, to fit the 1150 front axle, get a new front tire (explain to my wife why I need a new front tire), and start swapping the 1150EF front end to my GS750SE. Gotta get some bearings!!

  5. Looks clean. I've helped a group of friends on Hardley Abblesons, if our Japanese bikes have vibrations, those bikes have earthquakes. I've seen 8" long Header Pin assemblies breake the connecting clip and come apart.
  6. SOOO, Fleabag sends me only the rear wheel of the 2 wheel purchase. I contacted the seller, they insisted, according to their records I got the delivery. I had Fleabag intervene, and contacted the seller again. He contacts me and says he has "firmly expressed to the stockroom there were supposed to be two wheels send out, why was that front wheel still there". He provided me with a new tracking order, and I will be getting the wheel in the middle of next week. In the meantime, fellow member krazy kat has sold be a pile of parts at a give away price that will help me complete my '83 GS750ES conversion to a 17" front wheel, and wider rear wheel, much quicker. The pieces he sent me have saved me a fortune, and frankly, some I could not find anywhere. That's the great thing about Great forums, it's Great members.
  7. A question, is it worth running a bigger oil cooler on an '83 GS750ES? Just wondering. The Summer's are nearly in the mid 90's F all Summer long.

  9. This set of wheels showed up on Ebag today. New listing, wasn't there yesterday. These are the rims used in the "Instructional Video" posted. I got the set for $124.69. Straight rims guaranteed, has speedo drive. Also has hideous paint job, so I'll have to strip and paint that. Probably glass bead blast the sections that can be blasted, tape off the others, prime and paint black. Best deal I've seen. I am getting a refund on the other wheel sent in error. Free shipping on the front and back rim.
  10. Turns out the wheel was a 16" rim and to top it off, it was a Kawasaki Rim!! That's Egag for you. They're giving me a full refund and paid for the return shipping. So that's not too bad. Back to the rim search. From what I have figured out, these are the year front rims I'm looking for: 88-95 GSXR 750 92-93 GSXR 600 89-98 GSXR 1100 These also have the mechanical speedo drive. Again, any suggestions much appreciated.
  11. I guess it depends how cheap you can get the parts for. I would tend to agree with you though. Around here, the cops can be real assholes, and they will pull you over while being 5 feet off your rear end for 5 miles if you go 2 miles over the limit. An accurate speedometer is a necessity, if it's slightly off, at least have marked at 25 , 35, and 55 mph, mark where the needle should be.
  12. What year and model did the front end come off. I think a front wheel that has the drive unit is a very practical way to go, it's a matter of finding a wheel that the discs will work with your brakes, and the spoke pattern matches. I've spent so much time on Ehag looking for the right combo, and found a very inexpensive set up, the post was up for 1/2 half hour. I have some spare time and could go hunting for you. It's amazing how much stuff looking at the sellers other listings that the search engine didn't pick up.
  13. For $375, I'd try the mechanical method first. You can buy speedometers that use GPS and cost around $75 bucks off of Amazon.
  14. Restore it. Put on quality shocks. Do something with the motor, like cams, bigger bore, and some flat slide carbs. Bike will look like stock, ride much nicer. If it has a 19" in. front wheel, I might consider bringing that down to a 17 in", for quicker steering. The front wheel wouldn't match the rear, so you might need to consider that, and stuff a matching rear wheel, and go through whatever is necessary (I don't know, it might not be much, it could be the worse decision you ever made, but could turn out really well). My two cents (U.S.) worth.

This is going to sound really f*cking retarded, and dumb "American" like, if I were in your situation, and wanted to stick that speedo drive in, I would see where the tabs mount against the seal of the wheel bearing. I would, with a Dremel tool, sharpen the points on the Speedo drive, and penetrate the seal, use Butyl Rubber to seal around the entry points of the pins into the seal, and go from there. The worse thing that could happen is it wouldn't work and you might have to do some grinding or, if all else fails, get a new bearing on that side. If the pins do not line up with the seal, you could make a washer shim and cut out the drive pins, then bend as necessary to engage the drive, and then insert into the side of the bearing and the opposite side into the speedo drive. Since this will all be torqued together, you don't really have to go so deep that you enter into the bearing space, just through the wall. Those seal walls are thicker than you might think. So that's the official way I'd try to hack in a speedo left with no other recourse. I apologize beforehand.
  16. The GS11150 Front End came in. It looks new. I was surprised by how new it looked. It'll take another two weeks or so before the rotors, and axle w/ speedo drive, and bolts come in. I have a Tokico set of calipers, and Master Cylinder that I'm planning to put on, it seems they will fit. I won't know till I have all the parts in. So it will be a while till next update.
  17. I belong to a couple of English car forums. On M.G. Midget 1275 motors, they are experimenting with motorcycle carburetors. I ran a Weber Sidedraft DCOE 40mm, and it worked excellently.

  19. Found this on Ebag yesterday, has speedometer drive pick up. $85 bucks, seems fairly priced, comes with discs, free shipping. The GS1150 front end just came in, so as soon as it is above 28 degrees F, I can check this all out.. I think this rim (needs to be painted, close match to pattern on rear wheel) is the closest I could find, it has a mechanical speedo drive, so I can make that work, and bike will look virtually the same, just a beefier front end.. Opinions? I'm sure I'll have to make brackets for brakes, unless the Spare Tokico system I have happens to line up. Then it's a matter of deciding which brakes to use. Update: Ordered wheel, it's the only one I've seen there for weeks.

  21. It seems for the GSXR wheels, the wheels have to be from very early ones, to have the drive. I've located these: "1993-1996 Suzuki Gsxr750w Front & Rear Wheel Rim Set W/ Brake Rotors *straight* " and in the pic, you can see the cut outs for a mechanical speedo drive. Same price for both sets, including rotors. ?

  23. Yes! Rereading this thread, it seems(?) the Bandit wheels you suggested would be a better choice. I haven't purchased the rims/wheels yet. The Bandit wheels seems a better choice(?). I haven't purchased any rims yet. I'd appreciate input (and do appreciate the input you are giving me). I'm hoping that speedo compatibility can be achieved this way. I can machine any adapters that may be necessary. What do you think? There's a pair of a'2004-2005 suzuki gsxr 600 750 Front Rear Rims Wheels Rotors OEM SET" on Ebag for $149 which seems like a good deal, it includes the disc rotors.
