  1. The 'Ohlins' on XJRs are not Ohlins quality, made in Yam factory under licence. A new set of TECs, ever year for 8 years, equals Ohlins...but they last longer than a year....
  2. http://tecbikeparts.com/Shock_Absorbers.html You'll have to navigate that yourself, but the old adage of 'they're cheap so they're crap', doesn't seem to apply in this case. Remember when that hairy chap talked about 'Jap crap' in the late 70s when you were stood at the bar with your pencilled in moustache, yeah that. Just me then
  3. Nitros are very good but still quite expensive. I paid £360ish for mine although they were built to spec. Now, I'm am no Sheenebut I do have my hooligan moments and these babies have done 7000+ miles this year and behaved themselves very well, no discernible difference between now and then, came with 2 sets of springs and are adjustable. £100 show price from Newark this time last year (think they retail @ £120).

    80's were kool, Reebok Hi-tops
  5. Think I've found it but it's a wierd one. Dropped sump to check for nasties, clean as a whistle All good up top, cam chain hadn't been over tightened All good down bottom behind the generator cover. Only damage I could find was on the tacho drive screw, would explain the whirr, can't find why it might have happened Who'd have thunk it...

    I'll bring the HP
  7. I also backed the tensioner off a 1/4 turn before the last 140 miles and to be honest I don't think it was too bad to start with, adjusting the tensioner was just the last thing I'd done. I did it the same way I always do, finger tighten until you feel a little resistance then back it of 1/4 turn. Again now the rockers off I can assess whether I had over tightened it.
  8. Had the rocker off last night but didn't have enough time to really get into it. On first inspection cam chain/cams etc look to be fine, but I need to measure between the inlet and exhaust cams to see if they're out of tolerance now. And pop the cam caps to see if there's any damage to the bearing surfaces. It almost sounds like the starter clutch isn't disengaging although after stopping the motor it starts again fine on the button. I think if the motor had been spinning the starter for what is now 200 miles the thing would have given up pretty quickly. I'll drop the oil and look behind the covers this evening. Thanks for your input folks
  9. I wouldn't put it past it, sneaky german wobbly wheeled emissions cheat. I'm trying to imagine what would make this kind of sewing machine noise, cam chain running over metal (if the rubber's really worn on the tensioner blade? It did do 60 ish miles with a slightly over tensioned cam chain. I'll whip the rocker off tonight see if anything jumps out and smacks me in the face........
  10. But that's not moving? How can it be making a noise?
  11. Yeah OK, but this whine rises in volume and pitch when the revs rise, in neutral, at a stand still, with me stood on the other side of the road and somebody else working the twisty thing. We all call the shaft out the gear box the front sprocket is on, the output shaft yeah?
  12. Definitely sounds like a bearing, goes with engine speed though not m'cycle speed so before gear box, what do these cranks run on? Shells, balls or roller?
  13. Morning gentle folk. I have suddenly developed a whine that rises and falls with the revs so in front of the gear box in the drive chain. Sounds a bit like my Pan when I first got it new, a bit sewing machiney. The motor is being pulled for a rebuild shortly but I need the old girl for transport for the next couple of months. Has anyone experienced such a noise before a catastrophic engine failure? Quite high mileage 60+K miles, sounds like it's coming from the top end to me.... Ideas?
  14. I thought the whole point of CV carbs was that that bit remained at constant pressure. Are the return springs clean and free(I know they are)? I used a couple of silicon charity wrist bands around the cam chain tensioner to make the return action on the Slingy more 'snappy'...Anything to do with the positive pressure of the turbo? Re-read, the pressure, or lack of, from the motor does it while running??

    Not Bad

Nice one John, bike's looking sweet as
  16. Mammoth Munch for £70,000 I hear? That means Spier Museum has got over £2,000,000 's worth of 'em...
  17. Santa Pod Saturday but Sunday's a possibility...
  18. Charge cooling system to retain the contemporary vibe. Bottle off to Ash for a fresh coat of powder and holder needs a session on the mop. Bracket will have to be quite substantial as there is to be another bottle on the other side to maintain symmetry at the rear. Posts about this build will only be about the NOS install and control.
  19. Just buy C16, full of tetraethyl lead that stuff. VP, 204 litres £999.00. What's your mpg?

    Something new?

Nice ride from here, I'd be up for that
  21. That's mean. Personally over the years I've done everything from Artex through OEM and hippy-shit chops to race rep's. Plenty of food for thought there. My EZ
  22. You may well be correct but spent many, many hours on the old girl in the last month or so I barely touched it for 2 1/2 years. Plugging away.....
  23. Thank you man. I'm just being impatient with my finger hovering over the 'Buy' button, thought I'd just check. Now I'm into the loom I'm getting quite into it, running out off shrink wrap
  24. Away from the bike and wanting to buy a pressure rear brake light switch. Is the thread in the master M10 X 1mm or M10 X 1.25mm? I thank you
