So new files, brushes for cleaning and JB weld seems the way to go to use as a thread sealant for the stud after I get it welded. I had a look on google and it's max temp is 260°C.
I started the job today. I've removed the exhaust, sump, clutch side cover, clutch springs and plates. I converted the clutch to a GSXR750 (2000-2004) years ago because I wasn't a fan of the standard Bandit diaphragm spring one. Problem is I can find a cheap clutch holder, and my old Bandit one won't fit. I think I borrowed one from a mate when installing it.
In the UK they are cheaper (£18) but here in Belgium they are 42€ without post , and since Brexit it' not worth importing once the post and customs are paid. I was thinking of buying a cheap aliexpress universal mole grip type? Or can it removed/installed with an pneumatic impact driver?
You only need a couple off used steels and a length off flat bar to make one
no special skills just need a drill and a couple bolts ..

I,ve welded a similar area on GSX cases ....
Just remember to use files , dies wire brushes that have no been used on Steel in the past.....
after prep i cleaned it down with acetone and after it had dried / evaporated pre heated the area prior to welding ...

My turbo motors have heavy duty studs with steel cometic head gasket and O rings fitted, haven't had any issues.
Are you using the Genuine Suzuki O-Rings ?

Question For those running a big block GSXR ..
I notice after pulling the top end of mine with the o ring's over the H/D studs the rocker feed will be virtually non existent
So where are you taking it from ?

There are still Jems out there

When Mr Yoshimura moved the mounting point did the class rules require the bike to retain stock length shocks ? But make no mention of mounting location in the rule book ? Just a thought as to why ....
Most likely i would say ..

Having been caught on the hop a bit with the appearance of another project it's taken a minute or two to (mostly) settle on a plan. Until I actually get it in the workshop there will be stuff that will be more mights & maybes than certain.
So at the moment my thinking is this. The photo from the '90s shows it with the RG bodywork in black with orange stripes and lettering, and an orange frame similar to the Walter Wolf scheme. Looks pretty good in that so I think that's the way it'll go.
Engine wise I'd like to use a GS1000 done to 1085 with a flowed head etc. but that'll be an expensive route to go down. However, if it'll fit in the frame I have that Roger Upperton ET engine with an 1170 big bore, flowed head with EF valves fitted just waiting for a home. That way the only cost (still a chunk) for a serious normally aspirated period engine would be a set of flat slides. I even have a solid Harris works exhaust to complete the look.
That leaves the suspension, keep the existing wheels and have them coated at the same time as the frame and arm. Shocks are an easy bolt on, and see what's what with some RWU forks.
I'm trying to avoid it becoming a money pit as I have the Throwback build for that.
If that pic you posted was the bike in original form ..Its got a 2 smoke in it

The product you linked to was for a 1000. Will those pistons fit in an 1100?
I'm going to head to the garage soon and take a bunch of measurements so I can check and compare things.
Ignore that if you have 2V read the piston sizes and cc

I called MTC and they don't make anything for the 2-valve. I also called Webcams about camshafts and they don't make anything. Both of them said they were not aware that a 2-valve GS1100 even existed.
Is yours a 2V or 4V ?

Does anyone know of a good source for pistons for a 2-valve? Alternatively, can a 4-valve head be swapped out?
If your in the USA there are plenty
MTC , Orient Express to name a couple

you can go to 75mm "3mm over" but liners will be thin near the bottom
but for a road bike 74mm is the norm

If the 2v gear shift shaft is same spline as a 4v motor then yes

old skull guru's
I'm new to the site and need your help please
will a bandit swing arm fit into a GSX1100 EF?
if its a straight swap is there a particular generation of bandit that will fit?
Can anyone recommend a straight swap from any model/year
TIA
If you mean GSX1100 EF "full Floater" Then nothing is a straight swop .....
This is OSS and the answer is anything will fit "with modification"

Material is more concerning to me than quality control.
A Friend of mine has Heavy Duty Recycling Machinery manufactured in China ..
They have some world class foundry's with state of the art equipment and QC
However as Arttu said there are many that just churn out 5hite
Indecently there are more modern steelworks in China than anywhere else in the world
