bluedog59 Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 I'm sure I've seen people using the 4 M8 oil bolts on the head as engine mounts, anybody got any experience or anything ? Ta Muchly. Quote
Jaydee Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Yeah, knew a fella that had a Polygon/Pest framed gsxr 1100. They used the side cam feeds as engine mounts. Quote
Dezza Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Those JMC alloy frames for GSXRs had this but the last picture of one I saw had a conversion to use the normal front mounts in a similar manner as used by Spondon, by using a removable cradle at the front Quote
bluedog59 Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 I was thinking of "as well as front mount" rather than "instead of". Just thinking of losing the the bottom rails . Did the JMC conversion abandon the M8's or just add the front mounts ? Quote
Dezza Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 (edited) The JMC is in the trick frames section on its own thread but the pics aren't that close up. I am guessing it has had the head mounts removed and replaced with a mount that now uses the original mounts at the front of the cases. I assume you mean the front lower mounts. Many non-stock frames do not use these at all. They don't even bother with the bottom frame rails, e.g Spondon, Harris Mag 2. A cradle frame may need them though e.g. Harris F1, XR69 rep. Whether they can be replaced by an additional mount at the head could probably be best answered by a bike frame expert, e.g. staff at GIA or the bloke I know who's fixing my tank at the moment (I can give you his number if you like). bluedog59 Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 My thoughts are that you could be looking at oil leaks or snapped bolts. Maybe making them rubber mounts like the lower fronts on the bottom rail would help. Quote
dupersunc Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 I know they use the later water cooled engine, but the Bimota SB6 mounted the engine this way. 1 Quote

The GSXR11 WR and WS motors have an extra lug on the back of the head. That's what Bimota used to mount the engine. Quote

Dezza Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Whoever decided that Bimota would never build a frame to house an oilcooled GSXR motor should hang his head in shame Quote
