steelprunes Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 now it looks like this!!soz about the picture size, having a bit of bother getting the sizes right!! Quote
steelprunes Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 its gonna have a 1200 bandit fitted instead of the weak and pathetic 750 slingshot i had in it. this: Quote
steelprunes Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 (edited) ive changed the front end, it now has a zx9 front wheel and forks and a set of lurvley G.I.A c.n.c yokes, the old blade seat has been junked and i just finished making a new m.v agusta seat for it, i bought a donor seat from a guy on this site and modified it to fit then made a new part.heres a picture of the modified seat, massive thanks to rich at http://www.profibre.co.uk/ who is a genius getting the thing to look right and allowing free use of his facilities , materials and expertise! as you can see we had to rivet a strap across it to get the shape right, the fabricate the foward wings to cover the sump on the tank, then 5 loverly days in a styrene stinking hell hole making the mould! oh what joy! ardous and tedious but the result ( i think) was worth it. steelprunes Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 ok think i've got the hang of this re sizing malarky, one more picture 1 Quote
steelprunes Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 ok, so now i'm on a roll this with this resizing fandango i thought i'd show you my other project which has sadly been abandonedits a 750 slingshot frame with a vfr single sided swing arm fitted with a White power rear shock, the swingarm had to be machined down 4.5 mm on either stde to make it fit in,gav at G.I.A did all the work and also build the fantastic subframe, the seat is zx 10 and the front end is paoli forks, brembo calipers, marchinesi wheel and spondon yokes, this all came of the front end. my original plan was to fit the 1200 bandit in it but i have decided to concentrate on the spondon.does anyone know what the deal is with registering it at the d.v.l.a, it has no v5 for it, its straight cos its my old frame i used as a donor for the spondon but ive used the v5 for the spondon. i have a matching vfr front wheel to go on it to so the wheels match. kiwi Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I'll sit quietly with my Popcorn and wait for the frame registration answers to appear could be interesting reading . And not all possibly legit 1 Quote
vizman Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 if you've used the numbers off the slingy frame for your spondon, I'd suggest you keep it on the down-low, and put the slingy frame in your loft. 4 Quote
kiwi Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 i must say i'm surprised at how quiet this topic is unless you have been pm'd Quote
Sweary Bob Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 If you used the Sling frame numbers on the Spondon then the original Slingy frame is SCRAP! You need to cut it up, can't have two frames with the same numbers. Quote
steelprunes Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 hi all , i hav'nt used the frame numbers from the slingshot for the spondon, that came with its own number. i changed the frame number on the v5 to the number on the spondon frame and kept the original number plate. i spoke to the D.V.L.A and they told me as long as i had 3 parts from the original bike that would be ok, its been registered for 10 years now, so the original slingshot frame has its original numbers but no v5. hope that makes some sense!cheerssteelprunes 1 Quote
Fula28 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I love that!!!! Dvla three parts from the old bike!!!! Some of our builds are soooo far removed from what they once were it's laughable. Great to see another sponson framed bike being reborn love it. 2 Quote
teltwosheds Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Apply for a Q plate? seems logical. As that frame is not on the scraped list, and. C'mon it's a bitsa .........."Ca'nt find a shfty whistler" emcon? doda what'sit" Quote
busa ash Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Recognised that seat unit your build is coming along very nice too good luck with your build Quote
steelprunes Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 thanks m8, took a bit of work to make it fit but was worth the effort! got the engine in last weekend so its off the G.I.A engineering on saturday to get the subframe modified and to make the brackets for the oil cooler. 1 Quote
busa ash Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 well worth the effort , keep up the good work Quote
370steve Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 i spoke to the D.V.L.A and they told me as long as i had 3 parts from the original bike that would be ok,FPMSL, mate that isnt how it works! you need to score 8 points to get it called an original model, you score different points for different bits, total must be 8 or more.frame is worth the greatest amount of points, 5 i think.but as i have just found out having been through the "built up bike" process, they seem to interpret the rules to suit themselves, good luck 1 Quote
steelprunes Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 they must have changed the rules coz when i finished building the first incarnation in 2004 they did'nt award points, any three parts would do! obviously its different now!any hoo i have a v5 for it with the spondon numbers so its all good Quote
grebo Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 they must have changed the rules coz when i finished building the first incarnation in 2004 they did'nt award points, any three parts would do! obviously its different now!any hoo i have a v5 for it with the spondon numbers so its all goodIt used to be a certain percentage of the donor bike and it would keep the original reg and the vin would change on the book,It would then state," Motorcycle built from parts all or some of which not necessarily new at time of manufacture".This was how to re frame a crashed bike with a frame kit and keep an age related plate exactly as Steelprunes stated. They change this process all the time basically as a means of further taxation. busa ash Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 any more progress on this build steelprunes looking forward to the re build On 09/09/2015 at 6:02 PM, steelprunes said: they must have changed the rules coz when i finished building the first incarnation in 2004 they did'nt award points, any three parts would do! obviously its different now! any hoo i have a v5 for it with the spondon numbers so its all good Quote
