Low compression advice required

Hi there,

My 1230EFE engine was running very rough the other day so I decided to do a compresion test on it. It was putting out less power than it should even when it was running okay, so it was one of the first things I decided to do. The results were:

1 = 12

2 = 4

3 = 10.5

4 = 12

I did a wet test and it made no difference. If anything it dropped on number 2 to about 3. I reset all the valve clearences but it made no difference.

I'm gussing that the next thing to buy a leak down test kit? Or is the compression on 2 so low it points to something else?

What should I do next?

Thanks

It could be that your fuel tap is leaking fuel down the vacuum line into #2, washing out the cylinder

Yes - but it would have picked up or stayed the same with oil down the bore. I think you've got a burnt valve or two. Other cylinders aren't bad but an over bored EFE @ 10:1 CR? I would have thought nearer 180psi or 12.75 on your gauge should be the norm?

To be fair the needles were a little over 12 and the engine was cold, I might be getting close to 12.75 if it was warm.
