Banditslingshot Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Hi has anyone any experience with rebuilding a gsxr 750 engine 1991 I've fitted new piston rings and lapped in all the valves fitted new stem oil seals and when running its abit smokey is this normal ?? When I've pulled the plugs they look fine how many miles do I run it in for ?? Quote
Fazz711 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 It could be just oil residue from the rebuild. How many miles since you did the rebuild? Quote
Portaz13 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 What were the bores like? Did you hone them? Quote
Banditslingshot Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 The bores were good I did hone them I've done 20 miles since rebuild and smoked from the get go Quote
coombehouse Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Why did you rebuild the motor? Was it smokey before. Only reason I ask is that if the bore & pistons had a lot of wear, replacing the rings is unlikely to fix it as oil control depends on a nice close running clearance between the piston & bore as well as good rings. Banditslingshot Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 It had stood for a long time without running so I was making sure it was good as I've never seen it run but the bore was well within tolerance the rings I used were oem parts they cost £££ as did all the other parts Quote
Portaz13 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Is it possible there is left over oil in exhaust? Run it at varied load for 100kms and see if I clears up Quote
Antman Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I wouldn't worry to much about the exhaust, as you've said the plugs look okay that's what I'd be looking at. More than likely oil residue from the rebuild. Quote
