Carburettor washer ?

Recommended Posts

Looking for the part number (Robinson's don't have a gsxr750L 1990 fish) for the washer (plastic) that sits at the bottom of the needle between the needles and the slides.

The washer with a step in it.

Thanks

Just received the washer from Robinson's but it's different to the ones in my carbs ?

Mine have a small cut out/groove in them to sit in the slid, the that's arrived hasn't, they are going to order a EU one that has a different part number in case I've got them carbs.

Anyone with any ideas?

Did see something on here some time back about someone making these washers.

Post up a photo of your carbs? Are they BST38s? Stock L BST38s should have the large plug on the bottom of the float bowl for changing out the main jets. Ms didn't have that. They usually don't have that cutout when they're new, forms with wear and probably is part of why the emulsion tubes wear out so fast. Should be a round plastic disk that's stepped towards the middle where it's thicker. Once it warms up a bit more here, currently 2C, I'll go out to my garage and take a photo of what mine look like.

The carbs don't have the big nut/plug on the float bowl under the main jet.

All the other 3 plastic washers in the other 3 carbs have the cut out for the step in the slide.

Just read the sticky post on this (top of this section)

The 38mm carbs on the katana does have the big nut on the float bowls.

Post up a photo of the carbs. Only one year of the BST38s had that plug, but all of them had the rubber hose on the side of the carbs. They could also be from one of the emissions controlled countries that had BST36s. But all of the BST carbs I’ve ever rebuilt, that notch comes from wear and isn’t on new ones. Someone was making replacement metal ones that came with the notch, and I think they were primarily for BST36s, but don’t think they’ve been made in quite some time.

I spent too much time last summer rebuilding the BST38s to fix someone else’s horrible jetting, so they’re still pretty fresh in my head. Also why I’m gonna pull them and run RS38s instead. Gonna go out to my garage, I’ll take a photo of my spare spacers for BST38s and measure them for ya.

Yeah, they just wear down over time until that section is gone. Three of those that I posted are pretty far gone, bottom left didn't look as bad. I definitely wouldn't reuse those unless I needed a temporary fix until replacements showed up, but they are just a spacer for the spring to press against, don't affect needle height at all.

The one I ordered is just a plain flat washer, they are going to order a EU one (different part number) and see if that has the grove in it, but from what I understand Suzuki doesn't make the one with the grove in it anymore O.o

I will see what Robinson's come up with but as they need to order it in then ring me back won't be till next week.

No bolt on bottom of float bowl

The 38mm carbs on my kat are the BST with the bolt on the float bowls

Only one year of the BST38s had the bolt on the bottom for the main jet, the other years had a normal float bowl. Those looks like BST38s to me, or possibly BST40s, but you'd have to pull them and measure to find out.

They are both 38mm carbs the last picture one with the bolt on the bottom is on my kat the others are the ones on my et.

So both a BST carb?

Just trying to get to the bottom of this (pardon the pun)

Yeah, they're both BST38s. The quick access plug is an easy way to spot them, plus the rubber hose on the side, but only one year of the three years we got those carbs in the states had that plug. Unless there's some other bike that came with 38s that I don't know about, I'd say those are BST38s off a 750M, or M/N here in the states. Outside of the float bowls, they should be identical.
