Oil spilling out of (weep hole??) 81 GS1000G

Recommended Posts

I recently purchase 1981 GS1000G from a buddy, but with unknow origins to both of us. after changing the oil and running a bit i noticed alot of old oil, then new oil, pouring out of a hole under the (Generator cover???) im not sure what its called or where its coming from but i want to get an idea before i dig into the engine a mess more stuff up.

(located at bottom of engine where light is pointing)

Also lots of smoke from around the engine after running but cant find where from

Remove the gear cover (rear engine cover) to get a better look, it a dry cover so no oil will come out.

It could just be the front engine cover gasket or behind the rear cover, is where you fill the transmission oil so one of the bolts maybe lose

Lets start with the basics.

You havent overfilled the engine with oil? Wouldnt be the first one to fill up all the way to the filler cap instead of till the 'F' mark of the inspection window/glass.

Next thing that comes to my mind is that there could be some oil seeping past the starter motor rubber ring. And then makes its way down behind the sprocket cover, more or less towards somewhere you are pointing at.

Sooo i did a little digging and after some struggle with stripped screws (from a previous owner) i finally got the stator cover off and found a decent amount of oil inside, sot sure if its supposed to be there but probably since there was a gasket and the gears. i also took off the panel for im not sure what but wanted to see what was in there. anyways the gasket was junk and i might need a new stator because it looks a bit burnt? or maybe just covered in oil. definitely need need crews and gasket if anybody could hook me up with some that would be awesome!

okay so i figured it out!! the hole was from the starter drain hole but what was causing the issue was the previous owner ran the crank case overflow(????) line down through the hole. next question is how to get the line to stop spewing oil every time i run the bike. i filled oil to spec after an oil and filter change and i cant even see any oil in the sight glass aswell

If its blowing out oil - you've got crankcase pressure problems, and if the engine is off, and stood upright and you still can't see oil in the sight glass - its underfilled! The first issue means either a blocked or defective breather or routed badly or connected back on itself making a closed loop . . . . . or the engine is worn and breathing too heavily! The second - put more oil in till the level is between the marks!
