Bandit running bad

So a little back story had this bandit in the back of my shed, so lent it to a mate, who was struggling when I gave it him it ran perfectly, start and tick over were fine pulled nicely through the gears even though it was wearing pod filters

Now 3 months down the line he's brought it back, with standard air box on, doesn't tick over well, bogs down when under load, he says he's done nothing to it other than put air box on and clean the carbs though I have found, coils wired incorrectly, had a watercooled trigger wheel on, (not sure where that came from)

Got fuel got, got spark

Have tried putting it back to how it was, no joy

Have put coils, trigger wheel, and carbs off a running bandit and it's still shit, so any ideas would be helpful, no he's done something but can't figure out what?

If it ran fine with pods, then its been jetted to suit and won't run good with an airbox - suspect its too rich, so unless you want to go down the re-jetting rabbit hole, i'd put pods back on as a start! Got to ask - why did he change a bike on loan from a mate and without asking?

Think you need to cut his finger tips off for fiddling with your bike xD get him to take it to a shop and he pays to fix it as if it left running it's your mates responsibility to sort before returning to you?

had same problem with a 600 bandit about 3 weeks ago had 3 sets of carbs on it another loom another pick up ect in the end CDI was in and out took it off tapped it and low and behold water comming out but doing the same symptoms as yours :tu

Has it been over-revved? Compression check? Dodgy CDI? Could try the CDI off the other bike to eliminate the possibility.

Thanks @Dezza that will be my next move

Thanks @Gixer1460 and @TonyGeeyeah i am going to put standard carbs on that I know are good at the weekend, I have got a feeling the carbs that where on there will need to be gone through and checked, and that is a job for when I'm a little more calm:pimp:and have a little more time (y)

I'd start with the cheapest fix first like putting pods back on and working back from there.

Proper nobby thing for a mate to do. Second vote for chopping his fingers off.

Also, if hes messed around with everything else then I'd bet he's dicked around with the carb set up. Probably got all happy with a screwdriver thinking more turns = more power

Once I've calmed down I'll get into it properly, it's just pissed me off as I have my efe in pieces and should be on that, not pissing around with this>:(

So I only had an hour on it but@MrKris you were part right cdi was wet and nasty, fuel tap was intermittent, vacuum was being taken off carb no3 changed to2 shorter pipe seems to have sorted that issue needles were all on different groves, and I suspect the fuel was contaminated

Taken on a short blast  is running at least, probably need a couple more hours on it to be sure (y)IMG_20240927_130119.thumb.jpg.08932b6737923fcc4c08b5e0345996b1.jpgIMG_20240927_130059.thumb.jpg.117bce2103836036cde636fc24c7c97c.jpg

Trouble is we've been mates for nearly 50 years O.o don't know where the time has gone :(

So he's got it back under the strict understanding he doesn't let anyone mess with it :stop:
