gsxwill Posted September 25 Posted September 25 So a little back story had this bandit in the back of my shed, so lent it to a mate, who was struggling when I gave it him it ran perfectly, start and tick over were fine pulled nicely through the gears even though it was wearing pod filters Now 3 months down the line he's brought it back, with standard air box on, doesn't tick over well, bogs down when under load, he says he's done nothing to it other than put air box on and clean the carbs though I have found, coils wired incorrectly, had a watercooled trigger wheel on, (not sure where that came from) Got fuel got, got spark Have tried putting it back to how it was, no joy Have put coils, trigger wheel, and carbs off a running bandit and it's still shit, so any ideas would be helpful, no he's done something but can't figure out what? Dezza Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Has it been over-revved? Compression check? Dodgy CDI? Could try the CDI off the other bike to eliminate the possibility. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 If it ran fine with pods, then its been jetted to suit and won't run good with an airbox - suspect its too rich, so unless you want to go down the re-jetting rabbit hole, i'd put pods back on as a start! Got to ask - why did he change a bike on loan from a mate and without asking? 2 Quote
TonyGee Posted September 25 Posted September 25 what kind of mate borrows a bike and then fucks around with it ? decide if you want pod's or airbox and jet the carbs to suit and go from their. 2 Quote
MrKris Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) Think you need to cut his finger tips off for fiddling with your bike get him to take it to a shop and he pays to fix it as if it left running it's your mates responsibility to sort before returning to you? had same problem with a 600 bandit about 3 weeks ago had 3 sets of carbs on it another loom another pick up ect in the end CDI was in and out took it off tapped it and low and behold water comming out but doing the same symptoms as yours Edited September 25 by MrKris 1 Quote

Thanks @Gixer1460 and @TonyGeeyeah i am going to put standard carbs on that I know are good at the weekend, I have got a feeling the carbs that where on there will need to be gone through and checked, and that is a job for when I'm a little more calmand have a little more time Quote

perryh Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I'd start with the cheapest fix first like putting pods back on and working back from there. Proper nobby thing for a mate to do. Second vote for chopping his fingers off. Quote
perryh Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Also, if hes messed around with everything else then I'd bet he's dicked around with the carb set up. Probably got all happy with a screwdriver thinking more turns = more power Quote

Dezza Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Maybe also try a new set of plugs too. A previously cheap exercise but now not so Quote

gsxwill Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 So I only had an hour on it but@MrKris you were part right cdi was wet and nasty, fuel tap was intermittent, vacuum was being taken off carb no3 changed to2 shorter pipe seems to have sorted that issue needles were all on different groves, and I suspect the fuel was contaminated Taken on a short blast is running at least, probably need a couple more hours on it to be sure 3 Quote
gsxwill Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 Finally sorted, mixture of wet cdi, someone pissing about with carbs and contaminated fuel, thanks to everyone who offered advice 2 Quote
