Reelinfeele Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Hey all, 83 gs1100ed. When cold it will pop out of 1st or 2nd at or near redline, or when the power hits good above 8000. After warm it's not so prevelant. I am pretty sure I have cable adjusted properly. I am running barnett Kevlar plates and barnett springs. The steels were in almost perfect condition. Trans messed up? Shift forks? Hoping the trans doesn't need parts. Suggestions or insight much appreciated. Again, no issues until after 8000 rpm. Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Could be worn or damaged dogs. Had the same problem at one time. I replaced the worn parts. Once it got up above 8k in second it would let go. Very annoying. 1 Quote
Gixer1460 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) yep classic Suzuki problem! If you don't want / can't get new parts, some engineering shops can undercut the worn dogs and slots - its a rebuild regardless! Edited January 17, 2016 by Gixer1460 1 Quote
Screwriverracing Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Youcan take the gear box out with just splitting the cases, barrels and head can stay on, so not to expensive on gaskets. Cheers SRR 1 Quote
Reelinfeele Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Was thinking maybe just a back cut on the gears Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 When you rebuild it do the extra detent spring mod and protect against bad gear changes in future. That's how the damage is done in the first place Quote

Reelinfeele Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 That sounds interesting. I will have to look up that mod. Quote
Gammaboy Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 After consuting with my Guru - there's 2 options - Use an oil cooled GSXR spring, or 2 GSX springs. Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Yes I use a second spring. This can be done with sump off and a bit of patience. The "pizza cutter" ( my name for it) that locates at the end of the seletor drum has a spring which attaches at on end and is secured on a small hook on the crank case at the other end of the spring. unfortunately this won't cure worn dogs and slots. It does prevent missed gear changes which are often the cause of the damage and wear that causes the the gear to let go under high RPM. If it's jumping out of gear the best plan is to replace the worn parts and then add the extra spring as a preventative measure. Quote
berty Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Never heard of this spring mod. Anyone know if the spring from a 750 et lump is the same as on the 1100. As I have a 750 lump kicking around .and I also experience the 2nd gear pop out . ( gears and forks are new ) cheers Quote
berty Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Have just checked on cms - the spring for 1100 is same as for 750 . Part no. 0944308019 in case anyone needed the info . Quote
