Hi @DezzaNo it wasnt changed, measured length to ensure it was in spec. I assume if I end up looking at the big ends and splitting the case then that would be the perfect opportunity to put a new chain in. Edited March 1, 2021 by kiwisuzuki1100nz Quote
Nik Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 @kiwisuzuki1100nz; how did the trouble-shooting go? Did you find what was wrong with your engine? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Hasn't been around for well over a year so you may never get a response! Reading through the whole thread I would have said piston slap - I had a 1186 kit that slapped more than I liked after just 6000 miles so its not an impossible diagnosis! Quote

That was my guess too, and I was curious how it unfolded. Quote

Guest Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I know this is an old thread. My 1987 gsxr11 sounds exactly the same. My tappets are spot on, idler wheel is good, cam chain tensioner is good and cam chain has about 5000 miles on it. Only thing I can think of is cam chain guides. How ever they looked ok when I changed the cam chain. Quote
Metralla Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I think I have a similar issue, and I guess it is the cam tensioner being between two positions (too loose for the current, but not loose enough to jump to the next). Have you tried to ride it hard? Quote
slabbyowner Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I'm having the same problem. Every one that's listened to the engine says chain or tappets for sure. But my tappets are spot on and the chain has around 1500 miles on it now. Guides look ok too. Have ordered a new spring but chain is tight anyway. When I can get another engine I will strip this one down completely. Quote
