dirky Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 hi picked up a 1100 slabby frame for my 750 need a lighweight bike project. got rear shock thrown in so all good. then he said do you want to see my slabby. should have got out of there fast but said yes. now i need one... so i,m looking for a 1100 engine.there not cheap so i would like to avoid buying a lemon. other than good threads ect is there anything i should look out for on these. i can see my quick budget summer build disapearing into the sunset.. dirky Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 also would a top end rebuild and new seals be done as a normal thing or only if needed. i tend to go over the top with engines Quote
CockneyRick Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Engines are pretty solid, not much to look for that isn't real obvious. Go for a GSX1100F engine as they're the same but quite a few people are unaware & tend to be a touch cheaper Quote
mikeyd Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Like Rick said, solid other than 2nd gear going out. Quote
dirky Posted June 21, 2020 Author Posted June 21, 2020 cheers think i,m going original for the first time ever so will have to be the slabby engine. one thing i,ve seen tends to rot are the oil return tubes bellow the exhaust ports. are these specific to each model or can i use any 1100 ones if they need replacing. dirky Posted June 21, 2020 Author Posted June 21, 2020 cheers. brought a 600 katana once and they were almost rotted through. Quote

Dezza Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 The last 1100 slabside engine I had to strip had a knackered gearbox output shaft bearing. I think the later GSXRs and Blandits have an uprated design for a beefier bearing. Quote

dirky Posted June 22, 2020 Author Posted June 22, 2020 Just missed out on a motor. are the internals compatable over f/g/h models if I spot a bottom end or cases and decide to build or am I best to hold out. New projects always make me feel like a kid in a sweet shop .. Quote
