Quintin Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Hi all, i have 81 GS550L. This bike had been sitting for 20 years. Checked cylinder leak down and cleaned carbs. Spark seemed erratic but did get it running for a minute. Oil came running out from under the head. Replaced the head gasket and now no spark. Ignition coils test good. Tried a different cdi. 12v to the coils. Signal generators test good with an ohms test. A peak volt test is showing less than .1 vdc on each coil. There is no spec in the manual as to what it should be. In comparison to other engines this would be extremely low. Any info on what else to check or if the signal generator is infact bad would be appreciated. Edited May 13, 2020 by Blubber Quote

wraith Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Welcome to OSS. Bad wire or pulled wire when doing the head gasket. Quote

Fazz711 Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Hi bud. Welcome to OSS Do a nice intro in general section may get advice you need. Quote
Quintin Posted May 14, 2020 Author Posted May 14, 2020 I did an intro. I've ohmed the wires from connector to connector and they were all between .1 and .2 ohms. Don't know about GS550 but any other signal/trigger generator/coil I've run into the peak voltage is much higher. Quote
