Jpich85 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I’ve been trying to find a location for my battery on this build, with space being really tight due to the look in trying to get I thought about making a box, cutting out a space in the back of the tank and welding it in so that the battery would be fixed to the top of the frame and the tank would then sit over it, I thought it was a good idea but was then worried it might be a bit too unsafe? Maybe the battery would cook and blow the tank up or just get too hot or spark off something randomly lol, I’d line the box with heat and fire resistant material and then enclosure the battery terminal area with delrin or rubber. Just wanted to ask if anyone’s done similar or if you think it’s a bit stupid? i know I’d loose petrol capacity but I don’t mind about that cheers Quote
R1guy Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 That’s where the battery lived in this..... It never blew up or burned me in my ownership. Quote
Fazz711 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Seen it done that way on chops in the past. Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 The slabby tank has has a recess under the tank for the air box. That's where the battery is on my race bike. Quote
Racer-X Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I'd happily mount it under the tank. I'd just make sure the terminals were well insulated. Quote
Jpich85 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 Thanks guys I appreciate that, think I’ll go ahead with it, it was the mrs that made me worried because I mentioned to her my plans and she said... you sure you won’t blow yourself up doing that lol Quote
markfoggy Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Well ask her to stand away from the disk cutter while you make a suitable area In the tank and she should close her eyes when you weld it. I think she can go all when it is all where you want it to be. Quote
Jpich85 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Lol, she already warned me about the dangers of welding petrol tanks. i pretend I’m listening then go out to the garage and break out the disk cutter 1 Quote
Captain Chaos Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 run exhaust gasses from a car through the tank for some time. All petrol fumes are gone then, happy and safe welding. Quote
markfoggy Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 If you are intending to get A N Other to weld the tank, might I suggest some washing up liquid to make it smell nice. This is reassuring to the welder, but ultimately cruel. Comedy value is high though. Extra points scored if he sticks the TIG torch in his ear as the tank jumps off the bench. Quote
Jpich85 Posted February 17, 2019 Author Posted February 17, 2019 Lol nice mark, I’ll be welding it myself I did another mod on the front of it at Christmas time and luckily it turned out not to bad so thought I’d give this a try too, the tig machine is definitely the best tool I’ve bought, can do whatever really when your building a bike :-) Quote
markfoggy Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I will bear this in mind, I have a tank job that may need some confidence. It will definitely not require the tank getting crashed. Quote
