Hello, I'm new to this forum but thanks for adding me. Near me a quite nice 1982 GS1100e has come up for sale and I think I want to buy it as he's asking a fair price. The only problem is that it has some pretty extensive engine work such as a 1300cc big bore, aggressive cams, welded crank, back cut trans, carbs, the whole thing. Should I be worried about things like reliability? I can work on my own stuff for sure but I was kind of wondering what all "comes with the territory" when buying something this modified. The seller seems to be very knowledgeable and upfront so I'm not worried about him. Should I just pull the trigger and live a little? Or could this be a potential nightmare? Thanks for reading!

I have a problem with a high compression GS1000 engine- the man who owns the bike was told to run copper head gaskets in his 12:1 compression GS1000 but the copper gasket is leaking oil in a bad way. There are no o-rings in between the head/jugs, just the gasket. I’d like to switch to MLS or find a way to stop this copper one from leaking. Any suggestions? I’ve got no experience with copper head gaskets whatsoever

So i was riding on the 4th of July and all of a sudden oil started leaking out of my crankcase. NOT A SMALL LEAK. I took the crankcase apart and thought it was a gasket issue. But after further inspection, This bushing was protruding out and I think i put too much oil and it caused this bushing to bust. If anyone could let me know what this is it would be greatly appreciated. Working on my first bike is very frustrating but rewarding when you hopefully figure out the problem. Again thank you very much, Cheers, Cole Garcia

Hi guys. I’m new to the forum and am building a cafe racer from a 78 GS550. Hope someone can help. I’m looking to buy a new mechanical tacho. Does anyone know the drive ratio for the GS? From some googling I’ve not found an answer, but I think it’s likely to be 1:4, 1:5, or 1:7. I would have turned the engine over and counted the revolutions of the drive cable - but the engine is in bits right now !

Hello Guys. I'm back with some more questions about my GS. So I currently want to make a custom exhaust from stainless steel myself.. obviously a pipe that's already ready to be cut sort of thing. Yes, I understand that basically straight piping the bike is bad and will create a vaccum to suck cold air in, yes I know. I understand all of the risks. What I do not understand is what to use and where to even start? It's a 1990 GS500E. I want to cut down past the can about maybe 6-8 inches and create an outer facing hole so instead of the exhaust end-hole facing behind me, it faces directly to my left or at an angle towards the back. Someone please fill me in on how and what I can do to get this started.

Hello all. I am new to the Suzuki Community and am very excited what is ahead of me on this. I am looking forward to getting a new to me but old to age a 1990 GS500e. It's saw better days, it seems to need a carb rebuild kit (already ordered), needs a battery (will pickup in the future), But on the right side of the engine case, there is a hole about the size of a half-dollar. It is a common thing on most of the GS's that I see, but a lot of times I see them covered by a Suzuki Emblem, I would think that it needs a plug or something, such as some dual sports, they are called Engine Plugs. Was just curious if I need to buy a part for this or if I can just throw the adhesive logo over it? attached files are both of the right side of the bike, please look down at the engine case and give me some feedback. Thank you all -Ricky

Hi guys, maybe it’s because I’m used to modern bikes but the clutch on my gs650 feels way to heavy & hard to pull. Is there anything can be done to lighten the lever? I’ve a feeling the clutch is slipping under hard acceleration maybe that’s not helping things.

Hi all! After owning numerous bikes over the past few years some costing upwards of 10k. I decided to go old school so I bought myself a 1982 GS650L for the (i think) bargin price of £850 & I love it! It has a few battle scars here & there but overall in great nick! I was wondering how I could find out the paint codes as at the moment my bike is blue, but I want to paint it to a two tone brown colour similar to the picture. Any help greatly appreciated!!
