Sorry to hijack the thread a bit , but you asked about thh Wetdream mod for charging . This is it . Ok turns out it was 94 not 92 ....I seem to recall the mag kept talking about, and threatening to do, this article for a while, and in the end I thought I'll work it out and write it myself. As big Suzis were all the thing with my mates around then , I earned quite a few beers on the back of sorting out their dodgy charging . To be straight I didn't invent the mod , just worked out what other people were doing . It wasn't particularly difficult, other than back then bike electrics were a bit of a black art to most of us . Ah those pre internet days , hand drawn wiring diagrams , hand written text, and sent by post ......and in the ads, 1974 GT750LKettle ....£1450 ......1984 GS650T ...£450 . Who knew ?

CDI box at heart ? .....it's only a switch , pulse signal in , capacitor discharge out ? and I doubt in the early 80's 60hp ish engine , it's going to be very sophisticated . No 3D mapping . Plus can you "slot " the pick ups to adjust the timing or it is all pegged ? Electrex , feck me that's a blast from the past and gobsmacked they are still going , I bought one of their reggy-rectumficators for my GS1000S back in 92(?) before I taught myself how to wire in Wetdream units and saved a bundle .

Jack Kerouac's cousin maybe ? Big blown fuse suggests something gone phut . These are early CDI systems on GS650's I'm guessing . Can see then 2nd hand on Alibabababay for £90 Can't state fur sure but would guess similar vintage GS850 unit or even 1000 would be too far off, it's only a switch when all's said and done .

Good good ! I find myself , that if I run around on a bike for a few months before going in with the spanners :- 1 Quite often, stuff getting used, tends to loosen everything up, and things start working properly again , engine ....brakes....clutch etc. 2 I have a better idea of what will need modifying or fixing, and it gives me chance to evalaute / find / buy / afford the bits I'll need 3 ...and sometimes that list is far longer or expensive than I fancy plouging into it...........and so back onto eBalls it goes ..... Opinions ? You clearly need some punctuation ....and maybe a better introduction as to who you are , what yer bike is ,etc, even some pictures help .

Without wishing to be a Cnut , perhaps this is not a good first bike project for you ? These older bikes need a certain skill set and techincal understanding, and trying to resurrect a 35 year old machine without them is only likely lead to failure.Eg If you don't understand CV carbs you'll have fun trying to rejet properly for pod filters etc etc . It ran well before it was put away .....simple carb clean, brake strip and recommissioning should put it back on the road .

Yup it'll run lean and get too hot , although in winter you may not notice a great deal on short runs but needs sorting as Tony suggests . The foam sock filters are around 10 EUR on eBalls FYI. And lo ... the bike that was run up to temp had the compression come back up as the rings span around and sealed for the first time in 24 years, it's nothing short of a miracle . Also if all you have taken off is the carbs how have you managed to get the air box out of the frame , normally it won't come out until the engine/ head is out .

I'd be tempted just to run it . Don't throw money at it until you know its a goodun , Get the cylinders nice and hot on a good long run , and the rings will come around . Some diesel or ATF will help loosen them up as GIXER1460 said . By your first post this is your first bike , get it running , sort the brakes and then do it up as you go along . If you strip it down ..chances are it will never go back together. & if you want advice about barn finds watch Vice Grip Garage on Youtube !

This isn't one of those "Oldskool Suzuki Forum" trapped or binding cable issues is it ......sure I saw another around here recently . Other than the hydraulic route , another might be too take a gander at various other clutch lever options , see if one with a better leverage , bigger pivot to cable distance etc could be found to fit .

Clutch pack of fibre plates is £50 , set of springs £15 , probably could do with both after 30 years . I was surprised my clutcvh wasn't ruined after being sat for 10 years , slipped a little but after a run and an adjust settled down ok .

Ah.......... sanding the plates if you get really keen you can re dot punch the metal plates. Stretching the springs out using a pair of mole grips and vice works well too . All "racing" mods probably ...... I was laughing with the guy who does my MOTs - same vintage as me , about how you could get away with just swapping number plates between the same model of bike for MOT tests back before computers and everything else , or the restorative powers of brake fluid on expired certificates ....

New plates and springs or ...if you wanna go oldcheapskate ...a washer under each spring bolt to tighten it all up .....and then sell it quick....& no ..........I never did that back in the 80's honest .

Sometimes it's just the really obvious shit that gets overlooked and dismissed early . I suspect we have all been there at least once, and why it is handy to have a second set of eyes looking over it to spot the problem sometimes.

Rear will cost a pretty penny Front They have bits but not the clear plastic reservoir .
