  1. I don't think a katana is a cafe racer, a katana is a katana. If you want to race to a cafe with it, you can, but in my opinion it is not a caferacer
  2. I have the same wheel in a standard katana swingarm. I'm using a a brake caliper from a GSX750F, a 170 tyre, and I forgot what sprocket carrier,,, I think the stock one. I also use a 14mm offset sprocket on the front and the chain (530) runs clear from the frame, and from the tyre. And I made a few spacers to make it all fit.
  3. Having more problems with that engine at the moment, have to pull it apart again and will split the cases while I have it out for complete rebuild coming winter..
  4. Well, tested the bike and the seal that is in there now is keeping all the oil in. Just in case it starts to leak again, I made a little tool for it thanks for the help guys
  5. I will let it know here if the seal that is in there now will hold the oil inside Will test it out tomorrow when its dry outside.
  6. Well that metal retainer was easy to get out and back in, popped right out and back in, so I never thought about splitting cases before I started the job.. I made the edges of the casing a little less sharp, and tried it again to get a seal in that I damaged a little on a previous attempt. And it went ok with a little grease, and it is in now. Can't test it yet because of bad weather Freezer idea is also good ,will give that a try too. Ordered a new seal, and will make a little tool at work to try and tap the new seal into place But I still have a little bit of hope that the seal that is in there now won't start leaking
  7. You can get a little more power with a stage 3 dynojetkit, K&N filterpods and a GSXR exhaust.
  8. Little advice needed.. It was easy getting the oil seal out, but I can't seem to get the new one in without damaging it ( I tried a few times ) After I got it out I heard that normally you need to split the cases... I replaced a few of these before on other engines but never had a problem getting a new seal in with a little grease or oil. Has anybody done this before? thanks! and a picture of the bike (not finished yet)
  9. more and more of these bikes are popping up here, I like it
  10. great bike had one too
  11. I have a teapot 750 engine with a GSXR750 exhaust, and I needed a slabby oil pan to get it to fit. But the 1999 teapot might fit without changing the oilpan because it has a 4 in 1 exhaust, the earlier models had 4 in 2 and were a little bit different at the bottom.
  12. I would take the exhaust off too so I'd have enough room to remove old gasket etc
  13. If you did not fire it up yet, and it has stood still for quite some time I suggest new engine oil and turning the engine by hand a few times first before pressing the 'start' button.
  14. I also had clutch and bleeding problems with my 1100M, mine also was dragging when it was in first gear with the clutch lever in. I had took the slave cilinder apart and cleaned it with brake oil dot 4 and made sure I could move the piston back, and that the spring pushed it back again without getting stuck Also cleaned the master, it was full of black sludge. After cleaning, bled it again and the clutch was ok And my popup kat also has a fluid clutch, my slave cilinder got stuck, also because of black sludge and old oil, same trick did the job. I replace the oil every 2 years
  15. Oh and GSX750F rear wheel with bandit sprocket carrier fits like a glove in the rear swingarm, tried that too once. I also have another popup kat that I will restore to stock exept for the brakes and wheels
  16. I've send you the drawings Clive The fueltap... yes I've made a new knob because the old one could not go to 'pri' The cap on my carburator no 1 and 4 are a few mm lower than the other 2 because of the clearance with the tank. Carb number one gets in the way the mose with the fueltap But now it all has ( I hope ) just enough clearance. I am sure I will run into a few minor problems when I star testdriving it
  17. Welcome! Great bikes those L's Anout ten years ago I rebuild a Gs850GL,, still regret stelling it!
  18. I've got some engine mount drawings if you want clivegto? That gives you a starting point. You can use the rear bottom frame mount, the mount near the sidestand will have to be cut off. Fitting an oil cooled engine in a popup is a tight fit because there is little space between the carburators and the gastank. And also the fueltap was in the way. I made a few little modificaties to the carbs and fueltap that gave me a few mm clearance Bodywork on your popup looks good Clive, any more plans besides upgrading the engine?
  19. Just took a few pics before dark. Mine is an S3 popup from 84 Oil cooled 750F engine is a tight fit when it comes to the carbs (36SS) and fueltap, don't think an 1100cc will fit as easy as this 750cc because of the height of the 1100 Using a Bandit 650 oil cooler, 750 slabby oil pan, 1100R fluid clutch, GSXR750W wheels and forks, RamAir filters, stage 3 dynojetkit, 750R exhaust etc etc etc Still some work to be done before I take it on the road, but getting there.. If you need more info just ask, you have a popup kat yourself Clivegto?
  20. From what kind of bike is your sprocket cover?
  21. Good idea but I think the rod is the same length, I looked around but I don't have a different lenght. Even the original engine of my popup kat has an 80mm pushrod..
  22. 80mm thats great info thanks! Will get right on that. Now lets help JLawson90
