    Nice bike, always liked the shafties. I had a set of Billet 4 pots at one point....highly recommended. If you're happy with the forks and want to keep stock wheels, it's an easy option with no adaptor plates. I don't think anything else will bolt straight on. Now, what you really want is a set of RS36 flatslides, and I'll have your CVs and airbox in PX
  7. Just seen your edit....crossed posts! Check out the connections from the alternator, plus all your earths. Measure the voltage across the battery terminals. As long as you're getting more than 13.5V or so, when the engine is revved then all is good in that area. The charging system is working. If the battery shows less voltage with the engine stopped, or if it shows appreciably less after standing for a while, maybe the battery is duff. Either way, fix the fault before looking for an upgrade. (I don't know BTW if your model has the earlier wiring arrangement that puts 1 phase through the light switch, and is known to be sometimes problematic. Either way, a voltmeter across the battery will reveal all!)
  8. No, you're barking up the wrong tree. The voltage of the entire electrical system is set by the voltage regulator to around 12V and shouldn't go much higher. The ignition system is supplied by this, so it's set to 12V, no matter what alternator stator you have. And so it should be, it won't work otherwise. In terms of power output, that stock alternator can supply more power than the stock bike will ever need, as long as it is in good shape. The ignition system has a low power demand, so if your lights are working ok, the ignition system will be more than happy. Also, the stock ignition system is normally very efficient and more than good enough for anything but a tuned engine. If you're having some issues, either look elsewhere, or make sure the ignition system is working as advertised by checking the spark, timing and connections. Fit new plugs and plug caps, and trim back the HT leads, for example. If you want to upgrade the ignition system anayway, Dyna coils will give a 'hotter' spark at a higher voltage, whilst still only needing a 12V input. I think your bike already has electronic ignition anyway, doesn't it? So you don't really need to upgrade that. HTH

  10. Interesting stuff. Never knew you could get Shindengen stuff aftermarket, is there a UK supplier? I've been using Electrex for years with no issues. It does seem that in this case the RR was not at fault?

  12. Hi Tony, how do you find the forks work with the weight? I wondered if the springs would cope with the weight? We'll have to get together and talk stem sizes, lol!
  13. That's a GS500 one I think, and not really the same, plus you'd still need the DOHC one for the other side. Yes the 750 and 850 are the same part, and just about impossible to find. Looks like I'll have to go with the newer style. When I built my 7/11 in early noughties, you could still find them with difficulty, so I had a proper pair on when I sold it (the first time). I bought it back 2 years later and new owner had polished all the black off!!
  14. Has anyone tried the repro decals you can get on Eblag? They're not a proper dished metal emblem, just a vinyl sticker, but I wonder if they work?

  16. Yeah, possibly the relocation of it has put it where there isn't much flow to sense? Especially when throttle open. I think if you have a genuine oil pressure problem, the cam bearings would pick up pretty quickly. Edit: if it's really sensing flow rather than pressure, doubling the pipes would halve the flow rate at some points in the circuit?
  17. No. Because both supply routes eventually meet up and have to go through the same small hole at the cam journals. The smallest hole decides the pressure.

  20. Back in 2003 I had a fledgling business where I did some engine builds, bike restorations, rewires and the like. I only did it for a year or so, but one of the jobs I did was to build an engine for a chap called Jon from Hemel Hempstead. I built the 1100 engine as requested, and very nice it was too, and then I never heard anything else. He said he'd let me know how it ran etc, but I never heard a thing. Anyone recognise it?
