  1. A moment of fame again for the GS.... http://www.thegsresources.com/botm.php?year=2017&month=4
  2. All Suzuki parts except the adapters I made. Used a B-King radial master cylinder as well.
  3. Very true, only they have 36 spokes instead of 56 as the Madura hub has....if you want them to match. Or put big 320 rotors on front, and no one would probably notice spoke count.
  4. Here we go.... Time to dig in and get something done. Down to the bare frame now, and will get swingarm and frame soda blasted tomorrow like new...or close to it anyway. Needs a few new linkage bearings as I expected, but swingarm pivot bearings are good.
  5. Wire wheels for shaft drive GS models... I have blown off the shaft drive because of the fact there really is no option to different/wider wheels and tires. But I think this might give me a reason to look at the 1100G a little closer next time I find one cheap. This hub came from a 1985 Madura. The drive side looks identical to 850/1000/1100G models, and the brake side looks like it is in the exact same position as well. Only problem in my mind is the 56 spokes instead of 36 as most aftermarket wheels have. Sun rims does make rims with as many spoke holes as needed up to 5.5 wide though. Not sure if the matching Madura front hub has same rotor spacing as the GS line, but it looks like it couldn't be far off...??? Anyone try this or think of this option?
  6. My Pingle fuel tap came in the mail, and my fuel tank has been cleaned for the 3rd time now. This time it is much cleaner, but I added and extra filter (from a car) to make sure no more rust in any form gets to my carbs. A bit of overkill, but the whole bike is kinda that way.... I had the drill out the center hole for the fuel tap filter to fit into the tank...just slightly (much bigger passages in new tap). I also fixed my fuel gauge sender, as the float had fallen off the end of it, and was floating around in the tank. Put the float back on and safety wired it so it still can move around, and cleaned the whole thing up good. Then put on a new deal just to be safe. It all seems to work great so far, but snow came again and have only run it for a few miles.... Also got another pair of shocks from Japan (along with more two stroke parts) as they were cheaper than getting the shaft rechromed on the ones I already had to stop the leaking seal. It is now as ready as it can be to get some use and abuse...
  7. Yes... I prime mine also when it's been setting for a few days. Then I need to hold my knee on the choke knob to keep it open when I first get it started.
  8. Still collecting parts.... Stainless brake lines here this week, and test fitting my chambers.... Sugaya...this name means as much to Suzuki two stroke lovers, as Yoshimura does to four stroke Suzuki fans Still nothing really done to bike yet though....still dragging my ass. Really need to step it up to get bike done in time for show season.
  9. A view of some of the parts that got left behind.... Not sure what I'll do with them all, but I doubt I'll ever use any of them.... Pulled tank off today, and will be filling with vinegar one more time. Getting a bit of orange in the floatbowls still. Also will be getting a pingle fuel tap, since I no longer have a vacuum line coming from the carbs on the 29's...Need to get one with a reserve, since my gauge isn't cooperating yet. Been running with tap on prime at the moment.
  10. No...only one vacuum take off on 26 mikunis the other two are bowl vents....#1 carb has no outlet. The cylinder head is tapped for vacuum hookup in order to do synchronization.
  11. Today is the first time I am actually satisfied with this project, after all these months of spending $$$ and hours upon hours in garage. I put the 29's on today, like I should have to start with..... ...holy fuck....!!!! ...what a difference those carbs made...!!! It pulls like a freight train now. And that's just with the base settings from Sudco and no synchronizing yet.... ....like I said...I am finally happy with this bike. The black GS I pulled the 29's off of, will be getting a big port head and smooth bore 33's, just in case anyone might be wondering why I stole them .... And now I can move on to the next project.
  12. One is the fuel line, one is the vacuum that both go to fuel tap. other line from tank coming off fuel sender connects to nothing.
  13. I decided to canibalize my black GS1000 and pulled the 29 smoothbores off and planned on putting them on the blue GS. But after I pulled them and opened the bowls to make sure they were clean............ I realized they needed the sonic and soda blast treatment. The 29's have a number of differences from the 26's although outward appearances look near identical. Clean now, and will be put on tomorrow for testing....as the 26's have to come off anyway to see if I have any rust/contamination in float bowls...or anywhere else. Engine feels good, but still have carb issues I need to sort.
  14. It's up to 60 degrees today...unheard of for February No way I can't get the GS out for some test miles, and try and get bike dialed in a bit........moving needles down as it was running a bit rich. Turned out the mixture screws about 1 1/2 and it seems to run a bit better. But it's not quite right yet. Will try some more tomorrow, as wife has plans for me for the rest of today.... I have about 50 miles on it, and so far no major issues...other than tank cap needs a new seal, and rear shock still needs a new seal too...oh and clean tank one more time still.... It should make a great sports tour bike, which was the original rebuild plan (before my wife got her MC license)
  15. Its pretty close tolerance between the two, I put just a slight amount of black silicone around the inner circle, and around the outside edge. I tried putting in a o-ring, but it was too thick....the silicone seems to be working fine.
  16. Thanks for all the kind words, (and BOTM) it means a lot to me, coming from the best Suzuki builders/lovers on the internet. The build wasn't too hard, what was hard was deciding exactly what I wanted to do at each step. So many different directions to build these things, it's hard to have restraint with so many high quality suspension, and engine options to work with. But true oldskool won out on this one....probably because I'm pretty damn OLDskool myself.... I'm looking forward to getting this dialed in this spring as soon as possible myself.....and maybe even a action shot or two putting power to the ground
  17. Still waiting on one more box of parts for the VJ23....so not much happening still in garage. I did bleed the brakes on my left for dead GS1000 project, and put a shorter tail on my wifes 390 Duke. Here's the corner where all my next projects hide....all two stroke Suzuki's (GT750-VJ21-VJ22-VJ23)..the Jet Ski, works perfect because I have left it untouched
  18. Thanks guys It took a bit of time to get it all collected. And hopefully by spring, I'll have two more to raise hell on around the country roads...possible track days too if I can find time. Might have to say goodbye to my GT750J this spring, as I have a GT750 cafe racer I want to put together....need some $$$$ to finish the GT project.
  19. Not much happening in the garage yet this year. But I thought I would look through my shelves, to show a few of the parts I have waiting for my black GS. Trying to get as many period correct parts as I can.... Straight cut / billet clutch basket, 18 x2.5/18x3.5 magnesium EPM's, Kosman 13 inch cast iron floating rotors, aluminum arm, Lockheed calipers, Andrews cams, Dyna coils, Fox shox, 33 Mikuni smoothbores, 1980 big port head, 1085 Wiseco pistons....and so on.
  20. After about 4 months of trying to get this bike legal, I finally have paperwork that proves it.... Now I have some incentive to get back at it in a couple of weeks, as soon as my next box of parts shows up. The good....they got the serial number and year right The bad...they forgot the V in RGV, and wouldn't accept that I changed the speedometer reading to miles instead of kilometers.
  21. Is the crank welded, or does it have a straight cut primary drive?
  22. ...It's an addiction.... Trying to get parts collected before I dig in, but undecided on the direction I want to go. The smart and easy route would be back as close to 100% original (but not restored) since I have a VJ22 I will be building up, to beat the hell out of... But I was also thinking RS250 wheels so I can run 120x70 and 160x60 rubber. Stock front wheel is only 3 wide, RS MK2 is 3.5. And then if I do that I should get a set of pipes ($$$$$) and unrestrict the ignition ($$$$) I guess it depends on how soon I can find a cheap set of RS wheels...? Or if I find something better to burn my money on.....
