  1. As others have stated on here previously, its not always about necessity. I do like the sound of a head cooler but have not seen one fitted and in situ. Would like to see a photo so that I can see what is involved.
  2. Hi. Yeah sorted the jkc jjc thing out and found Torques site as well. Will look later. Cheers.
  3. Hi , when you say 'get the fittings off Torques' , I guess that is a supplier ? Do you have the full name of the company/supplier ? many thanks
  4. Jeeezzz, just got a quote for a head cooler kit and it comes out at £722 ! What the f*ck ! Is this right ??? Any body out there who knows a supplier that's not trying to have my pants down !!??
  5. It's the way I'm going. ANY second-hand Rs36 or 38's out there ?
  6. Seems to be the way to go. You got any photos of the finished install ? Definitely going to do this.
  7. Hi. Pretty much the way I have decided to go after the wisdom imparted here. I keep hearing about 'head coolers'. I get what is meant by them but where do I get one from ??
  8. Sounds fair to me. Anything that saves me a few quid is good in my book. Shopping list for now is carbs and ignition.
  9. What a great post ! I think I know where I'm going with my winter engine re-build. First off check the bore diameter to see if it has a 1216cc kit. If not fit one. Then maybe a bit of head work , RS36 or 38's, not exactly sure yet. And an ignition, maybe Ignitech. And that's about it. I've built Z900 engines with lumpy cams and not liked them on the road. Just one question to clarify tho............will the M/N shim head and cams fit straight onto my L rocker and screw adjuster bottom end ? And is it worth it ? This will only ever be a healthy road engine and no real need for wild top ends, prefer to have a grunty torque laden engine.
  10. That looks interesting as well. Was only looking at Dyna ignitions but looks like there are a few more alternatives out there.
  11. Where do I get one of these from ? Never heard of them . I've got grandchildren to help me with the laptop.
  12. Thanks, I'll put the cash towards the Dyna ignition I've always wanted and do the job properly.
  13. And 4 degree ignition advancer ? Worth it ?
  14. Hi, what about the 4 degree ignition advancers ? Worth fitting ?
  15. A cam re-grind looks to be around £300 ?
  16. Hi. I'm not against stick coils and I do like to tinker/play so will give it a go over the winter. I do like the idea of keeping things clean and tidy as well.Eblag here I come.
  17. Hi, yeah they do a smaller mini coil but not sure about them so will be staying with the bigger green ones for now.
  18. Hi, I've tried stick coils on a zx9r motor and wasn't that impressed to be honest. I'll be sticking with the Dyna coils for this summer and might have a play over the winter. What stick coils fit the L engine ? The bike itself is in lots of bits right now but I will try to get some photo's uploaded as and when it starts to come together.
  19. Yeah, I get that as well. And the leather jacket does seem to be getting a bit tighter now. As far as the bike goes, nothing that isn't needed will be going back on and trying to get lighter versions of what is essential.
  20. That's a fair point. I already have an Ohlins rear shock that will be going away for a recondition over the winter. Also got a GSXR1000 K1/K2 front end with Harris yokes that will also be going in over the winter, unless an Ohlins front end comes along at the right price. Just wanted to see what was the general thought on engine spec, looks like I have pretty much what is needed apart from some nice carbs.
  21. Hi, thanks for the reply. Seems to be pretty much what I have already apart from the flatslides. But they are on my shopping list now.
  22. Hi, thanks for the reply. And yes it will be road biased. Looks like I need to drop the engine to find out exactly what is in there. I didn't think converting to 6 speed would be worth it and I already have Dyna coils but stock ECU. I wasn't thinking of cams either so will put a set on my shopping list, along with some RS36's. I'll check the compression this week to give me an idea if it does have a 1216cc kit in there and see if its a good engine. cheers.
  23. Hi knowledgeable ones, Right , just been having a think about jobs for the winter and got to thinking about dropping the engine out of the Harris to do the valve clearances. Then I thought that while its out what else needs doing. Then I thought why not refresh the whole engine and get the bits together to build an 'ultimate' rod going engine. Not really interested in top end bias as its for the road and going in a Harris ,so no wind protection. I was thinking 6 speed box ? Mikuni RS36/38's ? Head looks to be flowed already and reported to have a 1216cc kit in there. I think I've read somewhere about fitting a GSXR750 head ? Dyna ignition ? Stick coils ? You know the sort of thing. Just throwing it out there for some ideas and discussion. Thanks All.
  24. Maybe because race motors are always in the top end of revs ? And not worried about town manners ?
