  1. I am fixated by it.....your avatar that is.....the bike looks like a good project too
  2. To be honest,i think you are going the right way....that Harris frame,to the untrained eye could be a frame designed and built this year just like others nowadays using trellis or tube style frames so that swingarm will be just fine... I know what you mean about the price though,..just look at the price of conventional Ducati 999 'arms compared to single sided...night and day. Sorry Busa,i have just read your heading stating the word modern....please excuse my ignorance lol
  3. I wasn't sure about the swingarm at first thinking the Ducati S4R tubular arm may suit better but once the seat unit was on it seemed to click.....The choice of motor is a winner too..oh and Absolute 80's on the tv is a nice touch too

Pics,we like pics......Aha..i was first to say it
  5. Are we limited on space for OSS??...its just that i'm considering camping over Friday to save rushing about early on Saturday morning..once i have bought the tent that is lol...it also depends on getting a sitter for the kids
  6. Well today i have mostly been replacing clutches..... A big thanks for all your help guys,it turns out the clutch hub was slightly loose and a new APE heavy duty nut and clutch kit has tightened everything up and no more thumping. It wasn't a bad job either apart from the moment i had just about finished packing the tools away when i remembered i had forgot to knock over the tab washer..D'oh....
  7. Just to add,if you end up having to fit an insert/db killer to your end can they may,if they notice, scribble a 'b' on your sticker to say it has a baffle insert....ive rode mine with it in,then took it out and i/they couldn't tell the difference really. Its just whether the officials notice you have taken them out while waiting to go on track in pit lane. I didn't tell you this but if you can hold it at slightly less than 5000rpm without them noticing it may help with passing the test ...simplest thing is to quieten it before the day..oh and if you have freshly packed a can with fiberglass packing make sure it doesn't come out during the test covering the unsuspecting RGV250 owner behind you mwahaha...
  8. I had good penetration (makes a change she said) and all welds back purged where space allowed.Welding is what i do lol....Mind you, seeing some of the Japanese factory welds makes me wonder if they have any strength
  9. Personally i would go 5/6mm...but it depends on how you decide to fabricate it.However you could go thinner if you are bracing it or using supporting gussets (snigger). If you are welding to the original frame you could go for 3/4mm which is slightly thicker than the frame itself. I modified my Efe monoshock set up but used 10mm plate!! and braced it too the frame tube directly above it.That thing will outlast the rest of the bike lol but i am absolutely safe in the knowledge it will not fail/break. Id go belt and braces myself if you dont mind the added (negligible) weight increase. The trick is to fabricate it as if it was meant to be there and not an afterthought
  10. I dont know why this is like that ^^.....its coz im stoopid....i believe the cut off point for a bikes age is 1996 BUT they do allow newer bikes if its in the spirit of things.Bandits were made from 96 if i remember correctly so you should be ok.Best check tho
  11. Just a thought is the turbo to manifold gasket intact still?..I had a gasket go once and it sounded like my valve clearances were wrong. The gas escaping from a small split made a noise you wouldn't associate with the turbo!
  12. Remember the colour coding when doing electrics....Red to Brown..Brown to Blue..Blue to bits!!!
  13. Exactly the same as i used too....^^^^^^^
  14. I have some recent ones in projects under 'my efe' busa ash....i will take some more soon in a more photogenic area lol
  15. Ok,sit rep, After tightening the needle tubes last night and putting the original mains in i took the bike out again and straight away i had no power and a very lumpy motor although it started good.I rode 200 yards and returned to find #1 downpipe cool.Pulling the plug found it to be wet...and #2 was the same.I replaced with dry plugs and tried again.Once i got onto a good road i found it much better with no coughing or spluttering. An A road blast and back left the plugs dry and clean.Maybe a slight touch of grey so i gave the mixture screws another 1/4 turn out. They are now 1/2 turn out from fully in.There were two things i did notice before the adjustment was the low speed cruising was a little lumpy and although the accelerator pumped seemed to work it was hampered by the clutch as it turns out it is slipping.(either that or i am spinning the rear wheel, but i doubt it lol)..I know it pulses as you pull away from standstill and it has been standing with old oil before i had it, So,i am getting somewhere at last.......
  16. Thats the one although i took my mates advice and nicked/borrowed a handful of those thin coffee stirrers you get in fancy coffee places..not that i go in them you understand... Once the rain stops i will try again to see if i have made any improvements.
  17. ive just ordered some stock size 130 jets for it Blubber.I cant wait to enjoy.
  18. I have routed the lines as clean as possible Solcambs. What i have noticed since i put them back on (no road test) is when i revved it up with no filters on the exhaust spat and popped until i remembered to turn on the pingle.it did improve lol...It revs with filters on and no load nice and freely.Im hoping the road test tomoz will see some different results.
  19. Im a twat loI.I just came back on here as it just dawned on me i forgot d'oh!!! Its an EFE,pretty much standard motor but with RS36's and foam filters,Dyna coils,Taylor leads........
  20. Woohoo, the old girl just went through her first MOT in ages and since i have rebuilt her. This was the first time i have ridden the bike too which is why the ride to the test was a bit of a gamble.I knew the carbs needed setting up but i couldn't do this until it was road legal. Anyhoo, the trip there and back was accompanied with much spitting in the carbs and a surging of the motor. It would bog down and if i tried to accelerate hard i would get a slight rise in acceleration accompanied by what sounds like airbox roar (i have pod filters)It was almost like i was running out of fuel and it felt very much like the points going bad on an old car.I am hoping its just the carbs so i just took them off, bench synced them again (no real change from last time) and put the original main jets in as i had replaced them with some off that auction site although their machined shape was different to the genuine article.I should know better. While i was in there i noticed two of the main jet tubes were loose so that wont help. The plugs looked sooty when i got home with only number 4 having the faintest touch of dark brown. Anybody have any ideas/advice before i take her out again?? While i am at it what is the correct amount of turns out for the idle screw? and could a slipped cam chain give similar problems?
  21. Not wanting to drag this thread out but i saw this ad too Kitkatman.^^^^^^..i noticed it is set up by Carole Nash and once i'd filled all the details in it came back more expensive than i had from elsewhere.Shame really. It seemed promising at first.
