Spadge Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Hi all. Just bought myself a 1000rr rear shock and gone to bolt it up but I am having a problem. The gas canister is resting on the brace of the swing arm impeding the movement of the arm. I have a wn frame with the braced arm using all of the original hardware with the braced arm Inc dog bones. Has anyone fitted one and know how to overcome the problem? Quote
Madb Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Interesting, how long are your dog bones, spadge? Should be 190mm centres. I was told straight bolt on and no mods. Pics? Quote
Spadge Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 I'll try and get some further details put up after work later Quote
Rene EFE Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 That's odd; I had one on a Slingshot with a braced swingarm for a bit and didn't have any issues. I'll try and find some pics Quote

Spadge Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 As requested, some pics of my predicament. Quote
Madb Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I see yer problem. Top shock mount should be bolted on, spadge. If it's w/c frame. Quote
Spadge Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 Just now, Madb said: I see yer problem. Top shock mount should be bolted on, spadge. If it's w/c frame. Wn frame. The mount is machined on the frame Quote
Madb Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 It shouldn't be. It should be bolted on wn frame. Maybe someone altered it? Does the canister rotate on the shock? Have you checked the length of the dog bones. Quote
Spadge Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Hadn't though about rotating the canister. What would you be aiming to achieve your rotating it? Regards top shock mount I know what you mean as all of the fiches for all years show a bolt on mount. I was equally perplexed by that. Also is that an aprillia swing arm? Which model/year. Do you think it will change the geometry much? Edited January 26, 2018 by Spadge Quote
Madb Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Some shocks allow the canister to move/rotate in an up direction but can't see if the casing is cast or separate. What does yer frame vin number start with. And do check length of dog bones. Too long will cause that problem. As for Aprilia arm. Rsv 2002 model.it won't fit till I remove 30mm aprox. Basically chop down and reweld up. That's in my track day build. 750/900 track day bike in projects too! Yes, I like being in my workshop. Peace! Avoid rsv 2004 ones as they can self destruct. Edited January 27, 2018 by Madb Auto correct!!! Quote

dupersunc Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 That shock/swingarm combo just isn't going to work guys, no matter what you do. Quote
Madb Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 @SpadgeDog bones should be 190mm centres. @dupersuncany idea why it's not right? Top shock mount doesn't look right for a wn model. Maybe 750m? Quote

Madb Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 But that top shock mount should be bolted on which seems odd?! Quote

dupersunc Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 2 hours ago, Madb said: But that top shock mount should be bolted on which seems odd?! It's got a bolt on subframe, so 100% a water boiler. Probably an 1100 frame. Quote
Spadge Posted January 27, 2018 Author Posted January 27, 2018 So I have the 190mm dog bones on the braced arm. I also have the banana arm with the 205mm dog bones. I'm assuming the 205mm bones will make the issue worse rather than better Quote

Yeah that's what I was thinking but a friend of mine was adamant that it's not and I generally trust his judgement. Ill do some digging. Quote
Madb Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Yeah the 205mm will make it worse. What does the frame number start with? Quote
Madb Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) If 750 should start with JS1 GR7AA-GR7BA or 1100 GV73 Fixed. Edited January 27, 2018 by Madb Added info Quote
