BMW s1000 rear shock

Hi all. Just bought myself a 1000rr rear shock and gone to bolt it up but I am having a problem. The gas canister is resting on the brace of the swing arm impeding the movement of the arm.

I have a wn frame with the braced arm using all of the original hardware with the braced arm Inc dog bones.

Has anyone fitted one and know how to overcome the problem?

That's odd; I had one on a Slingshot with a braced swingarm for a bit and didn't have any issues. I'll try and find some pics

Pics would be tremendous. Thanks

I see yer problem. Top shock mount should be bolted on, spadge. If it's w/c frame.

Wn frame. The mount is machined on the frame

It shouldn't be. It should be bolted on wn frame. Maybe someone altered it?

Does the canister rotate on the shock?

Have you checked the length of the dog bones.

Hadn't though about rotating the canister. What would you be aiming to achieve  your rotating it?

Regards top shock mount I know what you mean as all of the fiches for all years show a bolt on mount. I was equally perplexed by that.

Also is that an aprillia swing arm? Which model/year. Do you think it will change the geometry much?

Some shocks allow the canister to move/rotate in an up direction but can't see if the casing is cast or separate.  What does yer frame vin number start with.

And do check length of dog bones. Too long will cause that problem.

As for Aprilia arm. Rsv 2002 model.it won't fit till I remove 30mm aprox.  Basically chop down and reweld up. That's in my track day build.

750/900 track day bike in projects too!

Yes, I like being in my workshop. Peace!

Avoid rsv 2004 ones as they can self destruct.

Any chance you could give me the measurements of your dog bones from  end to end or from hole centre to hole centre?

@SpadgeDog bones should be 190mm centres.

@dupersuncany idea why it's not right?

Top shock mount doesn't look right for a wn model.  Maybe 750m?

Not at home to check at the moment. I'll update you all later or tomorrow.

Thanks

So I have the 190mm dog bones on the braced arm. I also have the banana arm with the 205mm dog bones.

I'm assuming the 205mm bones will make the issue worse rather than better

It's got a bolt on subframe, so 100% a water boiler.  Probably an 1100 frame.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but a friend of mine was adamant that it's not and I generally trust his judgement. Ill do some digging.
