A mate has just got a part done gs550 project barn find, thinks its a v reg? (No body work or v5).

It needs new head stock bearings but they are the roller bearing type and we can only find on eblag taper bearings.

Anybody know what year/models have roller bearing (ie ball bearings)?

Thanks

PS. The top and bottom part of the head stock where the bearing ring would sit is 48mm at top and bottom.

measure inside dia, outside dia and height then google bearing shop ,taper way better than ball, or search that site for year and model ,

Yes good idea, but the top and bottom of the head stock is 48mm ID which seems to be a odd ball size?

Tryed a bearing shop in Sheffield with no joy.

I got a taper kit to fit a slingshot stem to a  78 gs550 frame, comes with the correct races for the headstock. Just used allballs search facility to work out sizes and bought them cheaper locally.

You can work out the year from the engine/frame number -  link below

Good find - the 48mm OD does seem an oddball size in the general bearing world but common on bikes!
