Supa Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Fellas Hi, Im looking at if its possible to put the 1127 barrel on the old GSX1100 cases. Yes I realise ill need to bore cases but I have a barrel and a big bore kit 81mm add the 66mm stroke of the gsx and thats a 1360. Im thinking the barrel plus a 3 to 3.5 spacer plate and a base gasket each side to match the increased stroke. So far am I thunking correct? Next Q is the piston travel to far down (extra 3.5mm) the sleeve an issue. Any help would be appreciated and yes I did try and find this info on the site but couldnt. Im sure its been done. HELP Supa Quote
Supa Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Sorry boys thats a 3 to 3.5mm spacer plate on the base to cover extra stroke length. Basically using the 1127 barrel as a big bloke on the GSX1100, still retaining old head as its just a street chopper im building Quote
Gixer1460 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Not a very common mod a) due to the problems you've outlined but also b) the likely overheating issues due to the lack of barrel finnage! Also if oil cooling capacity is increased the overall engine oil flow could be compromised due to increased flow resistance through bigger coolers. I did 80.5mm GSXR pistons in a GSX Gorilla block on EFE bottom end and GSXR head for a drag race motor - it worked but was a one trick pony ! Quote

Supa Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Fellas thanks for the info. Yes I had overlooked heating as a concern. Guess its 81mm in the 1052 block or 1127 motor. A Q , is sleeving the gsx 1074 block to take 81mm an issue besides the cases boreed and sleeves put in the 1074 block. Thoughts?? Quote
Blower1 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 EFE 1135 cylider block is better for resleeving. It's stronger = more material. Bigger sleeves need o-ring in the bottom end or sealer to stop the engine oil going between the sleeves and block. 1 Quote
Duckndive Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) 82mm 1396 8mm O/S in a relinered 1135cc Block ... 81mm in a 1074 is 9mm over so boring for liners will break thru block between 1-2 & 3-4 a lot more than using a 1135cc Block Sealing liners into block is about the only minor issue I ran outside oil lines as well Edited January 10 by Duckndive Quote
Supa Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Thanks very much, im on the hunt for an EFE engine Quote

Supa Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 In OZ it mite be easier to get an engine. EFEs are thin on the ground here and buying OS cost a fortune in frieght. But dead right if I could get just the barrel/block. Its going to be easier to just get the Bandit engine , its just I like the air cooled finned look. Thanks Quote
Supa Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Plus Duckndive I already have a set of 81mm . Gotta find something to put them in !!! Quote

One other thing is pin size ...... 1074 engine has 18mm small ends .... 1135 engine has 20mm small ends...... 1127 gsxr has 20mm small ends Quote
Supa Posted Monday at 03:51 PM Author Posted Monday at 03:51 PM Im away from home but the 81mm com with 1127 barrels bored ready to go. I may just build the GSXR engine. I just have a head (gsxr1100 M) from a motor that sat outside(no not me) and for the life of me I cant get it off. I think rust in the dowels may be the issue. Yes Ive counted 12 head bolts 12 times plus the 10mm bolt on the cam tunnel. WHAT HAVE I MISSED!!!!!!!! Quote
