v-twinwalker Posted January 9 Posted January 9 jeez, this is like the 7th post ive made in 24 hours. starting a 89gsxr build hopefully soon, just gotta finish up my other build (2001 zx7r) and then its onto this one. im trying to create a detailed and concrete plan before i start so there's minimal complications to make this a smooth (and hopefully quick) build. anyways, i have a feeling i wouldn't be satisfied with the 750 engines power, so the plan is to make it some sort of 1100 configuration. i have a yoshimura duplex system that came with the bike and im pretty sure if i want to run it id have to use the 748cc bottom end for the oil pan to clear it right? if theres any other bottom end that works with this exhaust let me know. with the bottom end being a 748, is there a better transmission to fit into it? clutch basket? crankshaft? i have lots of options. okay so i planned on using the 1052 cylinders for this but i also have the 1127 and possibly 1157 cylinder to use for this, if i use the 748cc conrods are the wrist pins the same diameter for the larger displacement motor pistons? or should i also use different conrods all together? as far as cylinder head, 748cc is the one, or so ive been told. best combustion chamber and valves, porting, everything seems to be so good on the 748cc head from what ive heard. that being said, i know that the carbs sits higher on these, so being that id be using a larger gsxr set of cylinders, will i have clearance issues with the carbs and frame? also will it still be possible to run the stock airbox with the engine possibly being taller? carbs will be the 36mm oval carbs from the early slingshots as I've also been told these things are the shit. if this seems like too much stuff to try and figure out at first (for me not for you guys) then the main thing id like to know is that if i put a set of gsxr1100 cylinders on a 748 engine in a 89 gsxr750 frame, will it make the motor taller to where i will have clearance issues with the carburetors and frame, and will i be able to run the stock airbox on the bike? dupersunc Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Frankenstein's guide to oil cooled engines - Oldskoolsuzuki.info It's all here. 748 and 749 heads aren't interchangable, the area around the cam chain is different. you can put the 750 sump on an 1100 motor to clear exhaust. Simplest way to performance is an 1127 motor and gear it correctly, 14/48 is fun. 4 Quote
DAZ Posted January 9 Posted January 9 As above, the j/k frames are I believe slightly smaller than the l/m ones so a dot head on an 1127/1157 would be even tighter in your 89(k) frame ... Personally I'd look for as low a milage bandit 12 engine (they carried on 13/14 years after the gsxr 1127 stopped being made) and fit the gsxr cams and change the sump to fit your Yoshi 1 Quote

Tight, but it does go. As you say 750 cams in the Bandit lump if you cant find a good 1127. 2 Quote

As others have said, just use the dot head on the 1100 engine, all you have to change out is the sump and the oil pickup. Carbs will be higher, and the later BST38s will be better carbs than the 36s if you're looking for power. That 750 air box will not fit, between the 1100 bottom end and the dot head, the carbs are gonna be raised quite a bit, might want to think about swapping out the petcock for a Pingel to help with clearance under the tank. 1 Quote
Baron Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I have 1100 teapot engine on my 750K frame and it is possible to take valve cover off while engine is still in the frame. All you need to do is take all engine mounting bolts off and drop it all the way down (we are talking about a couple centimeter) and support it with floor jack. With floor jack you can easily raise is back to its position all mount it back up. Quote
