Upshotknothole Posted November 5 Posted November 5 The rivnuts for my exhaust hanger are getting nice and loose and liking to spin around, time to replace them. Is there any trick to getting the old ones out or than just going at it with a drill? Hoping to avoid having bits rattling around inside the sub frame if at all possible. GSXR 750M Quote

GSXR 750M Don't think you'll get them out. They're deformed bigger than the hole they fit in, obviously. I've re-tightened them with a spacer and a bolt before. 1 Quote

Eventually I'll probably just have to drill them out and hope they don't rattle too badly. Quote
Swiss Toni Posted November 6 Posted November 6 If you can't get them out, squirt a bit of something like Waxoyl in the hole before fitting a new nut. Hopefully, it'll clag all the loose bits together at the frames low point. 2 Quote

They barely salt the roads where I live in the winter, so thankfully rust isn't really a thing. Definitely worth giving a shot if I can't get it out. Was also thinking about sticking a bolt in the rivnut and throwing a C clamp on it to see if I could stretch the rivnut back out inside the frame rail enough to possibly yank it out. Probably a long shot, but figure as long as I put a piece of steel over the back side to protect the frame rail, it can't really hurt at this point. 2 Quote
