RobNukem Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Hi, I’m finishing off my project GSX and I was wondering if it’s possible to, for instance make a GSXR swinging arm fit the frame rather than the other way round,I mean take the suspension linkage from the GSX SA and weld it to the GSXR SA, also cut the bearing tube to fit too. I was thinking it might be cheaper and should be easier. Anyone done it or know of it being done? Quote
wraith Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Simple answer, yes it can be done. Is your gsx the twin shock type? If so you can buy weld on mounts for the twin shocks. As to the swingarm pivot. You can cut them down and reweld the bearing housing back on to a degree. Need to know which gsx and which gsxr your looking at Quote
LLD Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Everything can be done, the question is how much time you are willing to spend. Easiest route is to mount a Bandit 12 arm and use twin shock setup. The Bandit arm is narrower than the frame and with some bushings it is easy to mount. You will have to weld some shock mounts on the swingarm, but those can be ordered from Grumpy or so. You still need to decide what to do with the rear brake system as most likely you will not have space for that between the arm and the frame. When you want to go the mono shock route, it will also require the installation of the two mounts for shock and link system in the frame. Way much more work. Still the brake system problem must be addressed. A GSXR swing arm is wider than the frame and there are different ways to address that. Some have solved that by using an angle grinder, I typically drill out the swing arm pivot point with a hole saw and weld in a new mounting point. I have done both ways and prefer the easy route ;-) Quote

RobNukem Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 Thanks everyone, the bike is a gsx efe, gs 1150 es actually. I was thinking chopping the shock mount off the gsx as and welding it to say a gsxr sa, thinking it’s an easier custom. Quote
clairetoo Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I've narrowed a few arms for odd swaps......not too bad to do Quote
RobNukem Posted August 26 Author Posted August 26 I found this somewhere fb I think, in answer to my question:- Quote
