I get it when it's something odd or counter intuitive, more so when it's something you're not familiar with. I've asked a ton of questions on here and elsewhere about stuff that's outside my knowledge. I'm a long way from being an expert on fluid dynamics and pump flows. But guess what? There are things called 'Books', and in this modern age there's something even quicker called 'Google' and a minute on that will turn up all the info you need on how speed affects pump outputs and a whole host of other useful information.

It's also worth considering for just a moment why someone with the engineering skill and knowledge that @clairetoohas would go to the trouble of getting gears made and go to the trouble of fitting them if they didn't work, or at best made no difference?

wow, turned out to be quite the discussion this xD

Gears showed up now, got them for the equivalent of £45 including shipping. Pump was only an extra £50 so I got that too :)

Question: I see there's two different part numbers for the pump - 16400-49210 and 16400-49220 - only the latter is listed for the EF engine.

The 49220 one looks to have a different mounting or spacer of some kind. Are the pump itself still interchangeable? (I'm still in the hospital bed and haven't started disassembling my engine, so can't compare the pumps...)
