TL s/r differences

Does anyone know of any major differences between the s & r motors ? A friend needs a motor for her TL1000s, i've been offered R motor. Will the throttle bodies etc fit. Am i right in thinking its cams and ecu that are main differences?

Use the the parts microfiche for both motorcycles to crossreference alot of the time they will use the same picture with different models sometimes they change the part number even though the part hasn't changed "superseded"

I always thought the main difference was the first year S was an unrestricted engine, after that the S and the R both got mildly restricted along with the busa and all the liter bikes. Rs might have hotter cams as well, but not sure.

My S was red

TLS throttle bodies will fit. Fitting S oil cooler will need drilling and tapping in the cases. Clutch pushrod might need looking at as there are three versions (5 and 6 spring cable, 6 spring hydro). Iirc ‘97s had a two wire gear pos sensor, TLR 3. Waterpump housing is different but should swap over.

Iirc cams are different. Forged pistons. Heads can be O port or D port on a S. TLR always D port.
