‘78 GS1000 fuel valve

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi

Thoughts on any good fuel valve replacements for a 78 GS1000? I bought a cheapo one from Amazon but a component inside broke!! Do you folks know of any good replacements?

Edit: i found a pingle fuel valve locally but I have to rebuild it and it doesn’t have a vacuum inlet. Would that be an issue?

all the best

thank you

Depends if you don't have a memory span longer than a goldfish and remember to a) turn it on before riding off and b) turning it off after you've finished!

If you have good sealing float valves in the carbs, turning the tap off isn't so important, but if not any tap will usually be a problem!

Thanks Gixer1460! I believe the float valves are good, they were functioning well the last time I set them.

Other than remembering to shut the valve off any other issues I should be worried about? Is it a matter of simply plugging the vacuum port on the carburetor and switching the petcock?

has anyone done this operation? Any thoughts on it?

My bike has the stupid "BATTERY" light always lit. As a reminder to turn the petcock off I put a "FUEL" sticker right over it as a reminder to turn it on/off

The vacuum operated ones are sometimes left on prime, and will leak when old.
Any manuel one like a Pingel left on, can be a problem.
Both may result in a puddle on the floor and/or fuel in the engine oil.

An ideal combo with either i think, is to mount an electronic fuel valve.
Switches on when contact is on, switches off when contact is off.
Ideal for a goldfish memory like mine xD
