  1. With the symptoms I’m having would I be putting it in clip position 2 or 4? is it a fairly easy task to change the clip position? I haven’t seen any info on disassembly of the needle. thanks again for the help guys. This is the first bike I’ve ever “wrenched” on before
  2. Beautiful bike you got there!! Very classy looking GS for sure.
  3. Hi Folks Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve been slowly working on my gs1000 every so often and a couple of weeks ago I decided to install some headers, an exhaust and some k&n air filters. I went up on the pilot jet to a 17.5 and 130 main jet. Bike idles good and starts good. 3/4 throttle and up is also good. Issue I’m having is when I’m cruising from 1/4-3/4 throttle the bike seems to hesitate and bog quite a bit. Air screw is out 2 turns and fuel screw is out 2 1/4 turns. Needle clip is in its stock position. Would adjusting the needle clip be the solution? What do you folks think it may be? All the best!! Carlos
  4. I think the white smoke was water vapor. It’s gone away since. I still notice it’s takes a while to warm up though. Would switching to a 17.5 help with that issue?
  5. I swapped to iridium because I was told it might help a bit with idling. I don’t notice much of a difference though. I’ll check the plugs again sometime down the road. I’m still learning about the wrenching side of bikes, a lot to learn for sure.
  6. Just swapped to iridium plugs and this is what the regular plugs look like after 200kms…. Look okay to you folks? cheers carlos
  7. I rebuilt the carbs last week with new components from the Keyster kit and the GS1000 seems to be running fairly good. Especially compared to how it was running before. the only “issue” I seem to be having is it takes a while to warm up before the throttle is fully responsive. Would going up a size in the pilot jet be the solution? It’s currently stock at 15, I’m thinking of swapping for a 17.5 I also noticed some white smoke coming out of the right side pipe but that only happens when I first start the bike then it goes away. Any thoughts? best carlos p.s. Also swapped the petcock for a pingel and capped the vacuum port.
  8. You’ve done good!! Looks incredible! Where did you get the seat from if you don’t mind me asking? best carlos
  9. The Keyster kit looks like it’s good quality. The only down side is it did not come with an emulsion tube and idle screws were incorrect. I attached a photo. should the float needle valve have an o ring? It came in the kit but I’m not sure if it’s for that component. Last photo is the original.
  10. Thanks. Ordered the Keyster set. Hopefully everything is good when it arrives. I’ll keep you folks posted.
  11. Lol. I totally worded that wrong. I meant what’s the story on acquiring the bike? Was it something that just popped up locally or you’ve been trying to source a gs1000?
  12. What are your thoughts on Keyster carb kits? When rebuilding carbs is it a good idea to go with a carb kit or just replace o rings? Any other kits available for a ‘78 GS1000 that doesn’t break the bank but comes with quality components? Has cycleorings.com changed websites? thanks carlos
  13. That fairing looks real nice! What’s the story behind acquiring it? Found it in the wild or was it something that popped up locally? Super cool bike!!
  14. Congrats!! Nice score!!! What kind of work you gotta do to it? I’d love to see more pics
  15. Thanks Gixer1460! I believe the float valves are good, they were functioning well the last time I set them. Other than remembering to shut the valve off any other issues I should be worried about? Is it a matter of simply plugging the vacuum port on the carburetor and switching the petcock? has anyone done this operation? Any thoughts on it?
