squid Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I notice my EFE engine is getting really friggin hot while riding. Oil temp goes up to 120, and that's on the open road. Seems hot to me, but is it?Haven't had the bike tuned (yet) but to me it doesn't seem to be running that lean. Is there something else to check? Quote
squid Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) I don't think so. Both the sensor and the gauge are new and it behaves in a logical way. The temp just won't stop rising. Edited July 6, 2015 by squid Quote
Captain Chaos Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 good semi-synthetic oils can handle up to 140 degrees. But 110 is a safe maximum. When I took Fatty for a ride in 30 degrees and sunshine the oil gauge didn't show more than 90-95.Is the oil cooler clear? Not blocked? Quote
squid Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 No oil cooler yet! Was stupid enough to buy one with AN10 size and the I can't get the hoses to fit sensibly. But after all, aren't these engines supposed to work without a cooler anyway? And yea, I flushed the engine with mineral, and changed to ester based. Slowed down the heating quite a bit, but didn't solve the problem. Quote
dago Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 the efe was fitted with an oil cooler as std so probably needs one Quote
squid Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Okay, thought GSXR was the 1st with oil cooler. eBay-ward ho! Quote

arnout Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 My Kat has an EFE engine and stock EFE oil cooler but it runs hot (116 deg. C) in slow traffic anyway, so maybe you'd better get a larger cooler while you're at it.. Having said that, the larger the cooler the longer it takes on cold days to get the engine up to working temperature.. So best get an oil stat as well with a larger oil cooler.. Quote
squid Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 I ordered a 10 row 13" cooler already. It fits nicely under the plastic. 1 Quote
