While I have my bandit 12 head on the mill at work sorting the exhaust stud holes I was wondering if it would benefit from a head skim.if its a worthwhile mod how much should I remove.

As little as possible if you haven't done the maths

Do different make head gaskets e.g. OEM, Wiseco, Cosmic, vary in thickness and therefore offer an opportunity to fine tune the squish after skimming?

knowing the compressed thickness of the head gasket  you choose will aid in determining squish..... as well as adjusting piston to deck height.... ......cometic mls can be peeled like an onion .... you can also run no base gasket .....or deck the block ......these are ways to adjust squish .

The best way is to "dry build" the engine first without head gasket and measure the squish heigth, valve to piston clearance. Than do the math and go for 12:1 dynamic CR and account for the compressed gasket thickness.
