paulyp Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Hi guys. Been on here for awhile thought I would ask my first question as I'm in the middle of swapping my suspension on my 82 GS1100EZ to Bandit front end and rear wheel. I'm originally from Yorkshire now living in Canada. Does anybody have a picture/drawing/sketch on how they mounted the original GS1100 clocks to a Bandit 1200 top triple clamp? Don't want to reinvent the wheel if its been done before. Cheers Paul Quote
paulyp Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Ok so still working out the "brackology". lol I might cut up the old Bandit speedo bracket and use that. Cheers Paul Quote
Slabby11 Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 If you have both of the mounting brackets it should be reasonably straightforward to do, grab some cardboard and trace the two mounting parts that you need and join the middle bit in free hand, knock up a quick aluminium test piece and job done. 1 Quote
paulyp Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Thanks Slabby Just mocking up the final piece. I cut the two mounting parts of the original Bandit bracket and will bolt this adapter to it then mount the GS clock to that. Been a fun little project during lockdown. Cheers Paul 1 Quote
paulyp Posted April 10, 2021 Author Posted April 10, 2021 That is some nice machining Gsxrsam. I got it sorted, now to clean up and paint. Cheers guys. 1 Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 How do they look with the headlamp fitted? Nice and tight? Quote
paulyp Posted April 10, 2021 Author Posted April 10, 2021 Yes sir Swiss. We like em nice and tight. Cheers 3 Quote
paulyp Posted April 12, 2021 Author Posted April 12, 2021 A better picture to show the whole thing and how the clocks sit. I used an RF900 lower clamp and the stock Bandit top clamp. Just had to make a small bushing for the top clamp to the RF stem. All good. Cheers Paul 2 Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) Looks good! So ... the 1100EZ headstock must be shorter than the 1100ET! I tried using an RF900 lower yoke & stem, and the bloody stem was too short! Edited April 12, 2021 by Swiss Toni Quote
Hanma-shin Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 I thought all the gs/gsx/et/ez/efe head stocks were the same size? Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 @Hanma-shinYou would think so! I’ll measure mine tomorrow. If there’s anyone with GS/GSX bare frames, maybe they could also take a measure to confirm or otherwise? Maybe start a new thread? Quote
paulyp Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 Swiss i had to make a bushing as the RF900 stem was short. The bushing sits flush with the top clamp then i used th RF bolt. Cheers Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) Sounds about right. I took some ‘photo’s of the RF stem at the time, to show length as fitted to 1100EX headstock, which is 182mm by the way. As is ‘78 GS750. Got any pictures of the mod, Pauly? Sorry for the hi-jack! paulyp Posted April 13, 2021 Author Posted April 13, 2021 Sure here you go. The bushing centers the top clamp. I made it a little undersize in length to allow it to tighten down without bottoming out on the bushing. Cheers Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Cheers Pauly. I’ll see if I can dig out the ‘photo’s I took of mine, and I’ll PM them. Quote
paulyp Posted July 29, 2022 Author Posted July 29, 2022 Hi guys I know its an old thread, just wanted to post a picture of the bike after I got the paint finished. Covid slowed progress down allot. Base colour was Duplicolor Inferno Red covered in SprayMax 2k clear coat. Sand and buff after. It didn't turn out too bad considering it was rattlecans and sprayed in my shed. I have the decals just letting the paint cure for another week or so. Cheers Paul 9 Quote
