mcguire1205 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I've been thinking about a turbo Bandit 1200 build. Here's what I have in mind- Bandit block bored to accept stock gen1 Hyabusa pistons and rods. Requisite block spacer to achieve approx. 10.5:1 compression with Dot head. 30/27 valves good springs and retainers. GSXR 1100 cams and Proboost Fi race Bandit turbo kit. Any thoughts? Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Anyone else run Busa rods and pistons with a dot head? Quote
Arttu Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Compression ratio sounds a bit high in my opinion. What kind boost level you are planning for? Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 Yeah, I don't know where that # came from. I'm thinking more like 9.5:1 I'd like to be able to run upwards of 20psi. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Hmmmm! not without serious engine management (fuel and more importantly ignition) and charge cooling cos that boost is certainly getting to the limits of even 98 octane pump fuel without intercooling / charge cooling IMO. Do you want approx 250-280hp in a Bandit......numbers are nice - practicality is sometimes better! 1 Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) I understand all of that, this will be strictly a drag bike. I will be running a Dyna 2000 ign. So i should be able to work out a good retard curve and fuel will be VP C16. I'm just curious about wether or not the Hayabusa rods and pistons will be a viable route to take. Gixer1460 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Busa rods shouldn't be a problem at that power but pistons won't like it - I wouldn't trust them as they fail in Busa's @ sub 300hp and that is with proper ECU engine management! With carbs and a Dyna it'd be risky - A dyna 2000 won't give any retard 'curve' - it just drops a set figure from whatever the programmed advance curve is at that point. 1 Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 So, I guess I'll be visiting MTC for the proper slugs. Quote

mcguire1205 Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Ok, fair enough. MTC is basically, right around the corner from me. And as far as the Dyna 2000, I thought it had programming capability, as far as timing curves go...?? Quote
Zepp Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I've ran 20+psi on the drag strip with nothing but Busa pistons on dyna2000. They worked well. I've now fitted JE pistons. 1 Quote

mcguire1205 Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Trying to build this thing on an extremely limited budget. Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) What rods were you running?(Sorry for all the questions, trying to eliminate guess work..) Edited October 31, 2015 by mcguire1205 Quote
mcguire1205 Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 So, did you ever have any catastrophic failures? I'm thinking the stock Hayabusa pistons will be the way to go, at first. It'll be cheap to replace them, when I burn them up. (I say when because I'll be teaching myself to tune this turbo engine)...LOL Quote
Zepp Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Nothing broke at all. I only changed to JE pistons because I had them on the shelf. The engine is still running but I am taking it apart in the next few weeks to refresh it if needed. 1 Quote
